American Horror Story has been thrilling and terrifying viewers for three seasons now, and the fourth installment of the series, entitled Freak Show premieres next Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 10 p.m. on FX. Before Freak Show‘s premiere, we’re taking a look back at the most recent season of American Horror Story, which was called Coven, a wildly uneven, camp-filled season that still was the series’ most watched entry to date. American Horror Story: Coven episodes averaged four million viewers last year, and the Coven finale drew a bigger audience than the final episodes of the previous two American Horror Story seasons (the finale of Murder House was watched by 2.8 million viewers, while Asylum brought in a slightly smaller crowd of 2.5 million). However, while we know how many viewers the finale was watched by, what about the all the other American Horror Story: Coven episodes? How many fans tuned into watch them? We’ve got your answer to those questions right here. These are the five most watched American Horror Story: Coven episodes.
5. “The Sacred Taking” – 4.1 million viewers
The “Sacred Taking” was the eighth episode of American Horror Story: Coven and dealt with the titular ritual, which needed the death of Fiona (Jessica Lange) to become fully successful. This is also the infamous episode that ends with the coven receiving Delphine’s head in a box, a gift from Marie Leveau (Angela Basset). “The Sacred Taking” was watched by about 4.1 million viewers.
4. “The Axeman Cometh” – 4.16 million viewers
In “The Axeman Cometh,” the sixth episode of Coven, Zoe, Queenie, and Nan work together and use a spirit board to try to contact Madison, but they end up reviving the spirit of the Axeman of New Orleans (Danny Huston), a famous serial killer that actually ends up having a romance with Fiona. Also in the episode, Cordelia (Sarah Paulson) uses the gift of her “second sight” to discover that her husband, Hank, has been cheating on her. The episode drew an audience of 4.16 million viewers.
3. “The Seven Wonders” – 4.2 million viewers
“The Seven Wonders” was the season finale of American Horror Story: Coven and focused on the titular “seven wonders,” a competitive ritual of sorts that would determine who would be the coven’s next Supreme: Zoe, Madison, Queenie, or Misty. The episode drew 4.2 million viewers, and as I said before, it wasn’t just one of the most watched American Horror Story: Coven episodes but the show’s highest rated finale to date.
2. “Boy Parts” – 4.5 million viewers
The main focus of “Boy Parts,” the second episode of American Horror Story: Coven, focuses on Zoe and Madison resurrecting Kyle (Evan Peters) Frankenstein-style by using different body parts from him and his fellow dead fraternity brothers. It was the second most watch episode of Coven, bringing in 4.5 million viewers.
1. “B**chcraft” – 5.5 million viewers
Unsurprisingly, the most watched of all American Horror Story: Coven episodes was the season premiere, entitled “B**chcraft,” which introduced us to Zoe, Fiona, Cordelia, and the rest of the show’s characters while also setting the fun, campy, and frequently over-the-top tone of the season. Due to heavy promotion from FX, not to mention the popularity of the first two seasons of American Horror Story, “B**chcraft” attracted the show’s largest audience of all-time: 5.5 million viewers.
