Hart of Dixie 3.03 Review: “Take This Job and Shove It”

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the best part about this show is the cute little town of Bluebell.  They have minor characters that most often play in the background, and occasionally step up in certain episodes.  This was one of those episodes where even the quirky pharmacist outshines George Tucker, one of the main characters who so far this season has honestly been boring and predictable.

Frank, the owner of the Dixie Stop drug store/self-proclaimed private investigator, was the comedic highlight of this episode when Brick hires him to trail Zoe to make sure she isn’t medically treating anyone.  If she is found practicing medicine, he can sue her due to the non-compete clause in the contract from their previously shared practice.   I highly doubt Brick would ever actually sue Zoe, but it was funny to see Frank so obviously following her wherever she went.  Spoiler alert: Zoe and Brick make up by the end of the episode with a touching conversation ending with Brick hiring her back as an associate.

Lavon is trying to acquire a minor league baseball team for the town.  Brick reluctantly agrees to help him by calling his old college acquaintance who happens to be the owner of the team that is looking for a new hometown.   This old friend turns out to be a female who apparently still harbors a crush on Brick, so Lavon encourages him to play into her advances just enough so they can get the baseball team.

Wade wasn’t heavily featured this episode, which is a shame since he’s one of the more interesting characters on the show.  The few scenes he did have were important, as he and Zoe seem to be adjusting more and more to their new roles as platonic friends.  Joel even has a few scenes with Wade, where they start to bond over their common thread that is Zoe Hart.

Lemon had a silly story line, where she rebelled against the new leader of the Belles, the town’s ladies group which she used to run before she fell from grace.  After serving her punishment, Lemon ended up quitting the group.  Annabeth follows suit and quits with her best friend.  I hope this means Lemon will be more relevant to the rest of the town now.  She hasn’t interacted much with anyone other than Wade and Annabeth this season.  I miss the old Zoe and Lemon rivalry.

Indie folk band The Head and the Heart performed at the Rammer Jammer.  I have never heard of them, but it is cool to see that the show gets real bands to perform, similar to how One Tree Hill used to feature concerts in their night club.  Speaking of One Tree Hill, I’m very excited to see Robert Buckley will be guest starring in next week’s episode as a love interest for Lemon.  I don’t want this to be a season full of guest stars as potential suitors for her.  Next week we’ll be 4 episodes in, and that’ll be 2 episodes already featuring a guest star as a handsome bachelor in town to woo Lemon.  Here’s to hoping Robert Buckley doesn’t stay a stranger to Bluebell!

What did you think of this episode?   Are you excited to see a Tree Hill alum in Bluebell?
