The Boys Season 4: Everything You Need to Know About The Boys Season 4

The Boys Season 4 is just around the corner, and if you’re itching to know what’s in store for Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie (Jack Quaid), and the rest of the gang then you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we’ll break down everything we know about Season 4. From plot synopsis and new cast members to trailers and release dates, we’ve got all the juicy details you need to know before jumping into the new season.

Before we hit Season 4, let’s quickly recap Season 3. The last season ended with Homelander (Antony Starr) on top, winning over Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), teaming up with Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), and watching Team Butcher crumble from within. Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) died, Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) lost her powers, Butcher learned he only has a year to live because of repeated Temp V usage, and Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) is out of the picture—for now. This leaves Homelander unchecked and more dangerous than ever. However, he did end the season by lasering a Starlight (Erin Moriarty) supporter’s head off in front of a crowd. There will definitely be fallout from that which brings us to…

What Is The Boys Season 4 About?

Laz Alonso, Karl Urban, and Jack Quaid in The Boys (2019)

According to the synopsis released by Prime Video, the world is “on the brink” in The Boys Season 4. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office, and this time, she’s in cahoots with Homelander, making her an even bigger threat. As for Butcher, he has hit rock bottom—Ryan has joined forces with Homelander, Butcher is no longer leading the gang, and he’s got a ticking clock on his life. This means we can expect a more desperate version of Butcher than ever before.

Butcher isn’t the only one making drastic changes. Annie has thrown in the towel on playing nice with the system and will now be a fully-fledged member of Team Butcher. Series creator, Eric Kripke, has also teased that since Homelander’s raising Ryan, Ryan’s on a path to becoming a mini-Homelander, which could lead to apocalyptic stakes. A big part of Season 4 will be Butcher and Homelander fighting over Ryan, all while Homelander faces a trial for his public laser show. Check out the first look at Homelander’s trial below.

Do You Need to Watch Gen V Before The Boys Season 4?

Claudia Doumit in The Boys (2019)

No, you don’t need to watch Gen V to understand The Boys Season 4. Kripke has confirmed that both shows are watchable in a vacuum. However, the finale of Gen V will directly hand off to The Boys Season 4. Plus, Gen V introduced a bunch of plot threads that will likely play out in The Boys. For instance, the super-secret anti-Supe virus introduced in Gen V will be a major player in the upcoming season of The Boys.

On top of that, many fan-favorite characters from The Boys, like Homelander, A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), and Ashley (Colby Minifie), appeared in Gen V. Similarly, Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Sam (Asa Germann), two key characters from Gen V, are confirmed to appear in the fourth installment of The Boys. So, while Gen V isn’t mandatory viewing, it’ll definitely give you extra context for the events in Season 4.

The Boys Season 4 Cast Updates

The core team — Butcher, Hughie, Frenchie (Tomer Capone), Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), and Starlight — are all returning for Season 4. On the Vought front, Homelander, A-Train, The Deep (Chace Crawford), Ashley, Neuman, and Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) are also set to return. However, McElligott’s return as Queen Maeve remains up in the air, considering her character lost her powers in Season 3.

A big surprise is that Black Noir is, sort of, coming back for Season 4. His death would be bad press for Vought, so they’ve hired another Supe to don the mask and pretend to be Black Noir. Moreover, Crovetti, who plays Ryan, will be promoted to a series regular this season, so expect to see a lot more of him.

Season 4 also welcomes some exciting new faces to the cast. Rob Benedict, Elliot Knight, and the legendary Jeffrey Dean Morgan are joining the cast in still-undisclosed roles. The new season will also introduce Hughie’s mother (Rosemarie DeWitt). But the most exciting additions are Valorie Curry and Susan Heyward, who’ll be playing Firecracker and Sister Sage, respectively. These two Supes will be stepping up to fill the vacancies left in The Seven after last season’s carnage. Kripke has teased that they’re some of the best and craziest Supes ever written for The Boys. Check out their first-look images below.
