The legal thriller miniseries Presumed Innocent is one of Apple TV+’s most anticipated movies of the summer of 2024. Apple TV+ has earned a reputation for the quality of its shows in recent times. Like most miniseries, Presumed Innocent is based on Scott Turow’s 1987 bestselling novel of the same name.
Presumed Innocent was Turow’s first-ever fiction novel, with several others also becoming bestsellers. The Apple TV+ miniseries isn’t the first time the novel has been adapted for screen. Its first adaptation, the 1990 Harrison Ford-led movie, was a massive Box Office hit, grossing $221 million on a $20 million budget. Here’s everything to know about the Apple TV+ miniseries Presumed Innocent.
What the Presumed Innocent Miniseries Is About
Much of the miniseries is based on the plot of the novel. It follows its protagonist, Rusty Sabich, a Chicago prosecutor, who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of one of his colleagues. The victim, Carolyn Polhemus, was found dead in her apartment in what seemed like a sexual bondage affair gone wrong. As one of the city’s finest prosecutors, Rusty Sabich is assigned the case by his boss, Raymond Horgan. Horgan, who’s also the district attorney, is up for re-election against the formidable, ambitious Nico Della Guardia. As far as Horgan is concerned, solving the murder case would ultimately boost his chances for re-election.
As the investigation begins, Rusty Sabich knows too well his secrets may soon come to light. His previous affair with the murdered Carolyn Polhemus not only makes it a conflict of interest taking the case, but when the secret is revealed, it puts him at the forefront as the prime suspect. Rusty Sabich will do everything to prove his innocence as well as protect his family. However, it isn’t only the public spectacle he has to deal with. His marriage is failing, starting from when his wife discovered his affair with murdered Carolyn Polhemus. In Presumed Innocent, Rusty Sabich races against time to prove his innocence while later uncovering a secret that will make him question his life.
