5 Memorable Movie Soundtracks From The 80s

Some of our fondest memories come from the movies that we watched in the 1980s. There was a lot of action and some killer music that came out of the era. In a flashback moment, we researched the top films in which music was an important driver that moved them forward. We discovered five of the most memorable soundtracks from movie that people still think about today, to share with you.

John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd hit the big time with the immensely popular film. It was based on their characters born of Saturday Night Live Sketches. “The Blues Brothers” characters Jake and Elwood have truly gone down in history and the music they played was what viewers wanted to hear. It brought back some nostalgic music and the soundtrack became a big hit with fans. It wa a compendium with contributions from a variety of artists including Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes and John Lee Hooker.

This was another film in the 80s that produced a mega popular soundtrack. It was the all star cast that initially drove the audience to flock to the premiere and its later showings The movie is still a favorite that is played on various networks on cable and satellite. Sean Connery and Kevin Costner headed the cast in the story about Eliot Ness and Al Capone. It’s a timeless true story that people are interested in watching. Composer Ennio Marricone provided the exceptionally riveting score that moved the story forward and set the tone brilliantly. Piano and sax guided us through the various events with emotional highs and lows and a whole lot of drama. Including Duke Ellington tracks along with the personal favorite of Capone, Pagliacci was a nice touch as well.

This was one of Jerry Bruckheimer’s greatest successes. Tom Cruise brought them in and the story got them excited. The Soundtrack for the film was a chart topper in its day. It is a compilation of the works of various artists. It includes the Top gun theme with some great music by Cheap Trick, Kenny Loggins and Giorgio Moroder. The Soundtrack became number on on Billboard and nine million copies were sold.

Hands down, “Back To The Future” had some of the most impressive tracks that we’ve heard. It was the blend of nostalgia and the cool story line that made everyone want a copy of their own. We got to hear Earth Angel, Johnny B. Good and Back in Time and it made us want more. Huey Lewis and The News were big at the time and it was Lewis that was the guy that turned Marty McFly down because he said that his music was “too loud.” The film was a big hit and the soundtrack followed along in suit.
