24: Legacy Bombs in Post-Super Bowl Ratings

24: Legacy Bombs in Post-Super Bowl Ratings

I tried to pump it up.  You tried to get excited.  We all wanted 24:Legacy to be all that it could be.  And by the way, the show has only had 2 episodes so far so let’s give it a break and be patient.  After all, last night’s episode rapidly escalated over the first.  If you thought that 24: Legacy was somewhat restrained with its post-Super Bowl premiere, episode 2 was here to reassure you that “ridiculous” is alive and well.  The show already has its first mole and plenty of stuff that leaves you saying “huh? That can’t happen.”

Speaking of restrained, while a show always gets a boost from following a Super Bowl, 24:Legacy officially had the worst post-Super Bowl ratings in 14 years. According to TV Guide

The debut of the 24 reboot without Jack Bauer was watched by 17.6 million viewers and earned a 6.1 rating among the coveted 18-49-year old demographic, according to Fox. On their own, those are great numbers, sure. But looking back in history, it’s the least-watched post-Super Bowl episode of television since 2003, when ABC aired a Season 2 episode of Alias. That episode was also hurt due to a post-game Bon Jovi concert aired by ABC, which dragged its audience down to a 17.4 million viewer tally.

While I wouldn’t push the panic button quite yet, this isn’t the greatest news.  However, let us not forget that this Super Bowl, above any Super Bowl was extremely draining.  Talk about stress.  It was the largest comeback ever in a Super Bowl and my guess is that people were exhausted after watching this thing.  You can’t blame them for wanting to get some shut eye.  Committing to an hour long show that runs past Midnight on a Sunday is tough to do.  Still though, nearly 18 million viewers braved it out so the show should be psyched.
