It’s easy to assume that the general public might know next to everything about their favorite actors, musicians, and other celebrities, but there are in fact moments in the lives of the stars that people have either forgotten or never knew in the first place. Hard as it might be celebrity BFF’s are quite close even throughout several years, and have managed to maintain good relationships no matter what happens in their personal or professional lives. However it goes without saying that some friendships simply don’t stand up to the pressure of being famous. So with that said, here are some celebrity BFF’s that most people forgot were ever friendly to each other, let alone on good terms.
Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez
Disney certainly has a way of bringing kids together, but that experience seems to bind people in a way that never really fades as they grow older. These two actually starred on “Barney” together and remain good friends to this day. Most people won’t even remember that they were opposite the big purple dinosaur, preferring to think more upon their more recent and current fame. Despite their slightly different levels of success it is safe to say that this is one of the few relationships that still thrives based upon real emotion.
Sean Penn and Nicolas Cage
This friendship goes back to the days before either man was famous and remains just as strong in the present day. Eventually it was seen that Penn would go on to star in more dramatic roles while Cage went the action route for a while. Looking at them today you could probably make an accurate statement that they seem quite opposite in the roles they choose and the kind of intensity they bring to the big screen. While they don’t ever seem to appear in the same movie they are quite close and don’t often go too long without spending time with one another.
Brooke Shields and Matt Dillon
It was said that these two were always close back in the day but yet they never dated. It was rumored that Dillon was supposed to co-star with Shields on “The Blue Lagoon” but couldn’t quite get his head around the requested nude scenes. Not much is really known about their friendship of back then except that it did last. While they’ve taken very different career paths in the recent past they both remain well known names in Hollywood, albeit for very different roles.
Brad Pitt and Christina Applegate
Applegate and Pitt actually dated for a time until she moved on, but they remained close friends and still are to this day. It’s not too hard to imagine “Married With Children’s” most popular blonde hooking up with one of the biggest stars to ever come out of Hollywood, but as both have matured and taken on different roles they have still managed to maintain a friendship that has cooled but continued to be supportive.
Taylor Lautner and Victoria Justice
America’s favorite teenage werewolf was at one time just another kid waiting for a big break just like his childhood friend Victoria Justice. The rumors abound that these two are dating these days but thus far nothing has been confirmed. Lautner was on fire with his role in the “Twilight” series but his brand has notably cooled off since then as he’s undertaken several projects that have seen him work often with comic Adam Sandler. Justice has appeared in many television shows and has not gone the same route as Lautner, but has in fact become quite successful.
Amanda Seyfried and Mae Whitman
Friends since childhood, these two starlets have been seen together quite often despite their very different on screen roles. While Whitman is most likely known best for her role in “Parenthood” and her voice acting skills that brought Disney fairy “Tinkerbell” to greater fame, Seyfried has involved herself in much more dramatic roles. Both women have been up and down in Hollywood, finding prominent roles only to fade into the background occasionally, but through everything their friendship has remained strong.
Kim Kardashian and Nicole Richie
Back when they were teenagers and still relatively innocent Kim and Nicole were thick as thieves. Once puberty had ended however and fame started to crowd in it was easy to see how it affected them both. It almost seems as though once Paris Hilton entered the picture that Kardashian and Ritchie tended to gravitate away from one another in favor gaining Hilton’s attention. Once Hilton was seen to be less of a celebrity and more of an obstacle however both women split to go their separate ways again, attaining more fame on their own than they had ever enjoyed in each other’s company.
Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling
At one time these two were actually legally brothers when Gosling’s mom allowed Mrs. Timberlake to adopt her son while she relocated to Florida. The two have taken very different career paths but are still good friends. Both of these one-time teen heart throbs also got their start on the Mickey Mouse Club together when it was still a well-respected show. To date they are still good friends, but there is little chance of seeing them on screen together despite the fact that they still communicate and are seen out on the town now and again.
Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin
These two actually met and formed a strong, lasting friendship on the set of the thriller “The Good Son” which was perhaps one of Culkin’s final big-screen appearances. To this date they are still friends, but there is no doubt that fame has taken Wood down a very different path. Despite his current drop in fame, Wood is still a well-known personality in Hollywood whereas Culkin hasn’t been relevant since his acting days as a child. Both men are still close and keep in constant contact with one another however, no doubt reminiscing about the good old days when their fame was still on the rise.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire
Two of Hollywood’s most promising young stars have been friends since childhood and despite their very hectic schedules they still enjoy their time with one another. It’s safe to assume that their acting careers took very different turns, as Maguire is most well known for his role as “Spiderman” and DiCaprio has never quite been able to shake his youthful rendition of Jack in “Titanic”. As movie icons both men are quite famous in regards to their respective genres, but in real life they are just a couple of good friends that still enjoy getting together for a little mischief now and again.
Courtney Love and Carrie Fisher
It’s hard to equate the former wife of Kurt Cobain and lead rock singer of the band Hole with the classic personality that is the definitive Princess Leia, but according to sources these two were quite close. Love and Fisher actually spent a great deal of time together when it was allowable and were said to have spent Christmas together in 2015. Sadly, Fisher passed away recently. While she and Love were still on good terms leading up to her passing it is still enough to state that she is a former bff and a truly missed personality that many have mourned.
Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian
Anytime these two names come up it seems that trouble and self-aggrandizement is sure to follow. The two notably rich and attractive young women that America fell in love with were once on the same show ” The Simple Life” which ironically enough showcased Hilton as she attempted to live a more low-key existence than she was used to. While the show was a notable failure her friendship with Kim was at least intact until the infamous sex tape came out that showcased Kim’s “talents”. This was later followed by the show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”, which catapulted Kim to instant stardom and left Paris in the proverbial dust.
While many friends might have been happy for Kim, Paris faded off into obscurity with a few choice insults and a deep resentment of her onetime best friend. Sometimes popularity is just more important than maintaining a good relationship.
Taylor Swift and Katy Perry
These rising stars were as close as could be at one time and were noted for their cute little tweets about one another that went out to their fans and anyone that cared to read. In some ways a person could say that their brand of friendship was almost cloyingly sweet in how they talked to each other and acted around one another. Their falling out was rumored for a short time to be about mutual ex-boyfriends but this was proven quite incorrect when it was found out that the reason behind their split was something far more ridiculous.
Apparently three of Perry’s backup dancers had signed on to Swift’s tour only to leave early and reunite with Perry on her next tour. While Perry said nothing and barely reacted to losing three of her dancers to Swift’s action, Taylor was enraged about their sudden defection back to her bff. In retaliation she cut all ties with the dancers and her bff and went on to slam them all on social media. Since then the two have been anything but friends, and have even traded barbs back and forth via interviews and, of course, social media.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Winona Ryder
Sometimes it doesn’t take all that much for a friendship to crumble. In fact one might say all it takes is a lack of proper timing and bff’s can become bitter rivals in the blink of an eye. Paltrow and Ryder used to be quite close due to their connection with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, whom they were dating at the time. It was said that they were about as inseparable as Damon and Affleck, but unlike the OG bff’s, Paltrow and Ryder were split up by one of the most inane reasons possible. When they both auditioned for the part of Voila for “Shakespeare in Love”, Paltrow managed to edge Ryder out and went on to win an Oscar for the role. Since that time the two haven’t spoken to each other or really been seen in the same location. It’s been cleared up by Paltrow that she absolutely did not steal the role from Ryder, but skeptics tend to think that the friendship might have been on the rocks anyway if losing a part could have created such a schism between the two.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna
It goes without saying that well over a decade ago Gwyneth Paltrow was rubbing elbows with some of the most elite personalities in Hollywood. Her friendship with Madonna was a relationship that was based largely on fitness and was fueled by the fact that they both used the same fitness coach. One might think that this would create a more binding and nurturing relationship, but when Madonna stopped using the trainer Paltrow took this as an act of bff sedition and became quite incensed about it. In all honesty this might seem like one of the silliest reasons to ever ditch a bff, but there is enough of a gap in the information to believe that there is far more to the story than a jilted trainer and a celebrity that feels betrayed on their behalf. While Paltrow is obviously a very deep-feeling individual and expects others to be the same, her sense of what constitutes a personal insult seems to be slightly skewed to a type of sensitivity that borders on the obsessive.
Kevin Smith and Ben Affleck
This is one of those classic cases that occurs when two really good friends think that nothing can split up their good time and lo and behold someone comes along that drives an immediate and permanent wedge between them that can’t be removed. Affleck and Smith were close friends ever since Affleck was asked to star in the standout hit “Mallrats”. He would later go on to star in several of Smith’s productions such as “Dogma” and even “Chasing Amy”, gaining more and more notoriety with each film.
It was only when he met his future wife Jennifer Garner that Affleck began to distance himself from Smith, thereby ending a lengthy working and personal relationship that had been thought to benefit both men. Word is that Garner never liked Smith and couldn’t tolerate him in their home, which led to Affleck breaking ties with Smith.
Even when Affleck and Garner separated and eventually filed for divorce the relationship between Smith and Affleck did not recommence, as the friendship had already been damaged to the point that it could not be repaired. When asked his opinion about whether or not Affleck would portray the role of Batman in an efficient manner Smith actually admitted that he didn’t know because he no longer knew the man and wasn’t even welcomed in his presence. One might think that time heals all wounds, but in this case time only made this particular break even wider
Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie
On the set of “The Simple Life” it would appear that these two were the best of friends, and in truth they were for quite some time. But then the media attention became an integral part of the friendship and as a result the two began to vie for more and more attention. There was no doubt that Hilton believed herself to be the only shining star that deserved the spotlight, but Richie would eventually bow out in her own manner to make her way into other reality television shows where her fame was definitely lessened but not as threatened as it had been with Hilton.
In the meantime Hilton, always one to hold a public grudge it would seem, made a few cryptic statements concerning what had really caused the friendship to sour. Her words alluded to Richie being the one responsible for the split, and as would be expected seemed to absolve her of any responsibility in the break. Currently Richie has been noted as stating that she and Hilton are still good friends and that she thinks of Paris like family, but there has been little word on this from Hilton. In fact it is safe to say that she has not commented much on this supposed reconciliation.
Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato
Words seem to have a much more pronounced presence in Hollywood. Case in point is the relationship between Lovato and Cyrus. These two young ladies practically grew up together under the Disney name that offered them so much in their earlier years. Often seen as the best of friends this relationship came crashing down when Lovato mistakenly referred to Cyrus as an “acquaintance” rather than a friend. Needless to say Cyrus took it the wrong way and the two wound up walking different paths from that point on.
While it seems as though time might heal those type of wounds the two really haven’t been seen together all that much throughout the years since their split and in fact have little if anything in common other than their past. Lovato has gone on record stating that she wishes all the best for Miley but has little interest in following her career since they really don’t have a whole lot to talk about.
Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande
Celebrities aren’t the only ones that blow things out of proportion when it comes to beginning or ending a friendship. Grande and McCurdy were only seen to be close friends after working on the show “Sam & Cat”. From that point on the media and anyone with a cell phone and platform went crazy attempting to draw lines that could connect the two in ways that did or did not exist. In many ways this friendship was never really anything to get heated or anxious over as it was a friendship born largely out of creative similarities and genuine emotion. As of now the two will admit that they have a comfortable friendship that is more long distance than most. To date, McCurdy and Grande are still friends, but in a way that is far less intense than any bff relationship.
Elton John and George Michael
Words certainly seem to hurt worse when one is a celebrity. Elton John and George Michael used to be the best of friends until comments that were made by John concerning Michael’s homebody attitude sparked a rather heated debate between the two. The break lasted for some time but was finally put to rest when Elton reported that he and Michael had been spending time at his home, rekindling the relationship and finding common ground once again. It’s amazing to think that criticism in Hollywood can spark so much intense debate that best friends will actually go without speaking to one another for years, especially considering that they have so much in common. Elton John and George Michael remained friends up until Michael’s passing however, and were seen together more than a few times before that fateful day.
