10 Things You Didn’t Know about “You Got Served”

You Got Served is a little known film featuring the pop band B2K, with members of the group in opposing dance groups, as they go about ‘battling’ other groups in dance competitions to earn a living. The reputation of each crew is really all they’ve got to fall back on, but David and Elgin had something else on the side that they kept trying to quit but couldn’t seem to get away from. When a group from Orange County manages to beat David and Elgin’s crew by using one of their own people and copying their moves, the two have a falling out. Eventually however they have to get back together to win by their rep and to send the guys from Orange County packing.

It’s a fun film to watch honestly.

10. The dance battles were very real at times.

Some of those battles you see taking place are very authentic and the fight scene between David and Elgin’s crew and Wade’s was a little too real since they were tired and just fed up with each other.

9. It took the cast two weeks to learn the opening dance sequence.

Watch the opening to this movie and you’ll understand why it would take so long. There’s a lot of moving parts to these dance numbers and a lot of stuff to remember in order to get it right.

8. This was Kevin Federline’s film debut.

If you’re wondering just where in the film he appears don’t bother since his credit is only listed as ‘dancer’. Even when onscreen he wasn’t considered to be that big of a deal.

7. B2K was in this film.

Despite being broken up it’s fun to note that three of the four that comprised the group were on David and Elgin’s crew and the fourth was on the opposing crew in the opening sequence.

6. There was an instructional video put out after this movie was released.

It seems that a lot of people wanted to learn the style of dancing that was taking place. The only problem would be that this kind of thing takes a long while to master.

5. Wade and Max were originally one character.

This was going to be the same character but it seemed more plausible to make them into two.

4. The dance groups were kept separate.

They were taken to different studios to train. This was done to keep them apart so that the rivalry was very real.

3. Sonny is the guy that betrays his crew to help Wade win.

In the world of dance competitions it’s not entirely unheard of to switch crews, but giving away the moves of the group you just left is considered extremely messed up, even by the team that the person just joined.

2. It was a moderate success.

It earned back the budget it was given and made a great deal of profit, so it was a success, but throughout the years it’s gained more of a cult following.

1. The movie received a 17 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

This seems pretty unfair save for the fact that the moments that have nothing to do with dancing can get kind of boring.

Really, the dancing is the best part.
