Boyz ‘n the Hood might go a little over the top but at the same time it might show what a lot of people don’t want to believe is real when it comes to the inner city and the streets where drive-by’s are a natural way of life. This is the kind of story that some folks claim is all Hollywood and no reality, but the truth of it is that those people tend to close their eyes to the horror when it doesn’t affect them as readily, wanting to believe that there’s no such world where people kill each other for virtually nothing.
That’s the reality that some people wake up to on a daily basis.
10. The reactions of the cast to the gunshots were real.
The director didn’t tell anyone when the shots were going to pop off so every time they did the reactions of the cast were genuine.
9. This was Ice Cube’s film debut.
He’d stay the hardcore rapper for some time but eventually as most people know he started getting into family films as well.
8. This was one of the most successful films in 1991.

7. Laurence Fishburne is only six years old than Cuba Gooding Jr..
This is kind of interesting since he had to play the part of his dad. The character of Furious wasn’t that much older than his son to begin with but a mere six years is way too young.
6. The director based a lot of the characters in the story on his life.
John Singleton considered himself the only person that could really tell this story and so started taking moments out of his life that he recalled to put into the movie.
5. Ice Cube owns the car he was driving in the movie.
The 1963 Chevy Impala convertible is an awesome ride to start with but he had it all tricked out too so it was even more impressive.
4. Will Smith was considered for the role of Tre.
He had to opt out since he was committed to his role on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
3. The director originally wanted Ice Cube’s N.W.A entourage in the film.
Unfortunately after Cube split from N.W.A. that was no longer a possibility since the feud that erupted was simply too much to even keep the guys in the same room.
2. Rival gang members had shootouts in theaters after this film came out.
If people thought that the shoot out in Colorado was something new then they should look at the newscasts that came after the release of this movie.
1. Ice Cube and Regina King would eventually play in the film Friday together.
In Friday they would play the role of brother and sister, Craig and Dana. Regina would only play in the first movie while Ice Cube went to star in the second and third movies.
This movie tells more truth than many people want to believe.
