1. Mary Zophres
Having worked as a costume designer since 1994, Mary Zophres has built up an impressive list of film credits during her career. She was nominated for both BAFTA Awards and Academy Awards for Best Costume design for both ‘LaLa Land’ and ‘True Grit’. She was also nominated for a BAFTA Award for the 2002 film‘Catch Me If You Can’. Most recently, she has worked as the costume designer for the 2017 movie ‘Battle of the Sexes’.
2. Colleen Atwood
Colleen Atwood has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design on a staggering 12 occasions. The American designer, from Washington, has won four times for the films ‘Chicago’, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’, and ‘Memoirs of a Geisha Girl’. She has also won three BAFTA Awards and an Emmy Award. In 2017, she was the costume designer for ‘The Tick’. Her ongoing and upcoming work includes the films ‘Tomb Raider’, ‘Untitled Fantastic Beasts Sequel’, and ‘Dumbo’.
3. Sandy Powell
Sandy Powell is a British costume designer from London who began her career in 1986 with the film ‘Caravaggio’. In 2011, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). This was in recognition of the contributions she has made in the film industry. She has won three Academy Awards for Best Costume Design. These were for the films ‘Shakespeare in Love’, ‘The Aviator’, and ‘The Young Victoria’. In 2017, she was the costume designer for ‘Wonderstruck’ and ‘How to Talk to Girls at Parties’. She is currently working on ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ which is set for release in 2018.
4. Judianna Makovsky
Judianna Makovsky is from New Jersey and she became a costume designer in 1984 and is now one of the most celebrated professionals in this field. She has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design three times for ‘Pleasantville’, ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’, and ‘Seabiscuit’. She is also well-known as the designer for ‘The Hunger Games’.
5. Michael Wilkinson
Michael Wilkinson is a costume designer from Sydney, Australia, who first began his career in 1994. The first feature film for which he designed the costumes was the 1997 movie ‘True Love and Chaos’. His work on the 2013 film ‘American Hustle’ was recognized with a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design. Other films on which he has worked include ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Parts 1 and 2′, ‘Man of Steel’, and ‘Hustle’. Most recently, he designed the costumes for the 2017 films ‘The Current War’ and ‘Justice League’. He is currently working as the costume designer for ‘Aladdin’ which is set for release in 2019.
