Five Marvel Movies That Almost Happened but Didn’t

Five Marvel Movies That Almost Happened but Didn’t

By now you should be getting the idea that there have been a lot of Marvel movies that have been in the works but never really managed to make their way to the big screen. In fact some of them kind of imploded before ever making it past the idea stage. In some cases that’s not a bad thing since the idea for those movies could have been something far less than what Marvel has been trying to do for the last decade. But it still seems to stand to reason that a few of them might have been interesting to see, if only for the humor they could have brought to the audience.

At least one of these is still on the line to happen however.

5. Black Widow

The writer that was almost responsible for this character getting her own movie had to scrap it since during the time he wrote the story female-led superhero movies were starting to flop big time. But thankfully the idea never really went away and started gaining popularity when Scarlet Johansson stepped up to the plate to play Natasha Romanov in Iron Man 2. As of now the idea is still on the table and is almost assuredly going to happen.

4. Spider-Man 4

Sam Raimi was understandably tired when it came to the third installment of the Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man. As a result the movie was about as lackluster as it could be, meaning that it just about tanked despite being packed with characters and action. Perhaps the biggest reason that the fourth movie didn’t happen was that Raimi just didn’t want to put out a substandard movie, which is admirable in a way.

3. Dazzler

As a character in the comics Dazzler was never much of a threat to anyone unless there were another few X-Men around her to take advantage of the distraction her light show could cause. With Bo Derek set to play the character however things got even messier when she insisted that her husband direct the movie. Add to this the fact that the script was being written by someone without any sort of background in comics and it’s not too hard to figure out why it fell apart.

2. X-Men Origins: Magneto

Had the films First Class and Apocalypse never been made then it might have been possible for a movie about Magneto to come to life and show people just what happened to him that made him hate humanity so much. From what’s already inferred throughout the X-Men movies however you get a very good idea of just what happened to Erik and why he became the human-hating individual he was presented as. A little more background might have helped, especially when it came to his fathering of Quicksilver and potentially Wanda.

1. Black Panther (w/Wesley Snipes)

The biggest issues that plagued this early 90’s production were the fact that there was no director and the CGI effects were simply not up to the times. Wakanda and Black Panther were wonderfully-wrought CGI that worked perfectly for the most recent movie. But back in the 90’s the effects just weren’t as available yet.

For a couple of these films there might still be hope, but only if they find a miracle to make it work.
