Back in their day they were one of the most sought after bands to come along and had one of the most awesome sounds that anyone could ask for. In truth their music is still sought after but a great deal of it is out of nostalgic need rather than anything else. They’re still a well-respected and loved band, but their sound is now used more for denoting the perfect moment in a film when thoughts of the past are needed and something vintage is desired. This is one of those bands you love to say still has it, but it’s not something that still tops the charts.
To be honest it doesn’t need to top the charts in order to still be worth listening to.
5. Zombieland – Don’t Fear The Reaper
So how did you survive the zombie apocalypse? If you’re Woody Harrelson you got stoned with Bill Murray and reenacted one of the most iconic scenes from Ghostbusters. Now that’s how to spend your time during the end of the world. Some people might hide out in a bunker or a mall or even a prison, but when you’ve got the kind of creature comforts you want and a star celebrity to hang out with why go anywhere else?
4. Lords of Dogtown – The Red and The Black
So I think by now that we can just go ahead and say that Heath Ledger was great in about anything he does. Lords of Dogtown had a lot to do with surfing, but eventually it had even more to do with skateboarding and competition. The passion soon went out of the sport when it went big time, which seems to happen to a lot of things once they come upon the type of fame that attracts the money-hungry agents willing to suck the life out of anything they can. The lesson here? No matter where you go in life, keep the passion, because in the end that’s the one thing no one can take from you.
3. Joe Dirt – Burnin For You
Poor Joe is the lovable loser that women seem to lock on and guys can’t help but pick on. No one knows why but throughout the film Brandy, his only real friend to start with and eventual main squeeze, has eyes just for him despite his skinny rail of a body and over-sized mullet. While this seems completely awesome and is totally legit, the only guy standing in Joe’s way is Robby, who is bound and determined to make Brandy his.
2. Heavy Metal – Veteran of The Psychic Wars
This is, for lack of a better explanation, a very odd movie. It’s the type of film you really need to be into or you just won’t get it. The soundtrack is great as it features a wide variety of music that you can definitely recognize and get into. But the story line is something you have to watch from the beginning and possibly know something about before ever starting the film. There are a lot of fans that swear by this film, they won’t recommend it but they’ll swear it’s one of the best.
1. Detroit Rock City – Godzilla
At this point I’ve seen so many songs on the Detroit Rock City soundtrack that just don’t appear in clips that it seems like the movie is a masterful attempt to hide away all the scenes in which these songs appear. However, the “Chongo” scene is where Godzilla appears and it rocks. Sorry this is in Spanish but you’ll get it anyway.
Blue Oyster Cult’s music has appeared in a large number of TV and film spots. Their most popular song is one that’s been nearly everywhere, Don’t Fear the Reaper, and is probably the one that most people would think of when they hear the name of the band.
