It seems like there is virtually no end to the popularity of movies involving superheroes these days. In fact, there is every indication that the genre is becoming more and more popular with the passage of time. As such, people are clamoring to become involved with these types of projects because it is virtually guaranteed that they will make a lot of money off of them, usually long before any scenes are ever even shot.
Such is the case with a new movie that is in the works about Kitty Pryde, one of the Marvel characters from the X-Men movies. Up until now, this character has always been part of an ensemble cast and has never had a feature film that focuses solely on the character itself. The upcoming movie promises to remedy that fact. Most fans will be excited to know that the director will be Tim Miller, who directed the movie Deadpool. Obviously, he has the skills to make a hit out of this film. He will be partnering with Disney, who recently purchased the rights to X-Men movies. This will be the first project that will involve the X-Men since Disney took over, so that fact alone will make it interesting to see how the project ultimately plays out.
Disney hasn’t just secured some solid talent when it comes to the film’s director. It is reported that the script will be written by Brian Michael Bendis, an individual that has been writing for X-Men comic books for more than 20 years. Obviously, he knows the X-Men universe better than just about anybody else. He also originally served as part of the creative committee responsible for Marvel movies, so he is well-versed in all things related to the X-Men, both with regard to comics and previous films.
One of the biggest questions fans are likely to have is whether or not Ellen Page will return for this particular endeavor. She has played the character of Kitty Pryde in previous X-Men movies. Several years ago, she was asked whether or not she would be interested in participating in another movie that allowed the character to be further fleshed out in something of a solo feature. At the time, she said that she would be interested to learn more. However, nothing official has been decided so it isn’t yet known whether or not she will actually be coming on board or if the individuals involved with this new film will have to find someone else that is capable of playing Kitty Pryde.
Obviously, most fans will likely be more receptive to this new film if Page does come on board. However, there is so much excitement that typically centers around superhero films, producers are thoroughly convinced they can make a hit out of this new movie with or without her. The one certainty here is that Disney seems to be getting its feet wet in several different areas of the entertainment industry lately. This new project marks one of their latest adventures. Hopefully, fans will find the finished movie just as entertaining as the previous X-Men movies.
