A to Z 1.03 Review: “C is for Curiouser and Curiouser”

Andrew and Zelda jumped all in to their new relationship after only knowing each other for a few days.  By modern dating standards, that’s a crazy concept for most to grasp but it’s also what makes A to Z so charming.

Stephie’s failed attempts at online dating end up teaching the new couple a lesson.  Instead of falling down the internet rabbit hole to learn everything about a person before you’ve even met them in real life, Andrew and Zelda are glad that they didn’t hesitate on their instant connection.

Of course Zelda gave in to the temptation of Google searching Andrew to dig up any dirt from his past.  The worst thing she finds is an arrest report which leads her to calling in a favor to get the dashboard footage of the actual arrest.  Andrew brushed off her snooping so sweetly by explaining that it was a big misunderstanding, which only led Zelda to feel even more guilty about her biggest secret: she was married before.

Andrew takes some time to wrap his head around this monumental secret but since Zelda swears Gustav was only a law school friend who needed a green card marriage, it was easy to forgive.  Their last conversation about marriage was interesting.  Zelda never took marriage to mean anything significant because of her hippie single mother upbringing.  Now she admits she’s become less cynical, to which Andrew slyly asks “any particular reason?”  They both know that he’s breaking down her barriers and broadening her view of what real love can be.

Stu and Stephie buried the hatchet between them for the sake of their best friends.  Even though Andrew and Zelda have maybe only been dating for a week, they already had to designate hang out times on Fridays for Stephie and Saturdays for Stu.  It feels like the show really is finding its voice now that the sidekicks are “pretending” to be friends.  Stu revamping Stephie’s Wallflower profile is probably only the first time he’ll be acting as her wingman.

Lydia pulled a total Michael Scott move when she gets access to all company computers.  Howard advised her against this but naturally she didn’t listen.  By snooping through emails, she discovers her nickname among the office is Big Bird.  Howard tries to put a positive spin on the name by justifying that Big Bird is a “majestic big bird.  He’s a bird with no equal.”  Maybe now Lydia will start to listen to Howard’s advice, but where would the fun be in that?

How are you liking A to Z so far?  Do you agree with Andrew that meeting “in the wild” is preferable to online dating?
