You kind of have to expect that since the Black Panther movie has been released that the Young King parody by Jaden Smith is just the first of many such clips to come. It’s not exactly disrespectful, it’s just another take on the character that manages to make people laugh and have a good time with it. After all, parodying a movie isn’t the same as throwing shade at it. This is more like giving props to the Black Panther for being that awesome. And when it comes to superheroes and representing them in different ways Jaden Smith has shown that he’s more than ready to do so.
If there’s one gripe at all about the Black Panther it’s that in comics and now in the movies he’s been ramped up to such a degree that it seems like he could take on just about anyone and stand at least a small chance of coming out victorious. This would include villains and heroes that are easily beyond him in skill and power, though it would seem the Erik Killmonger has his number when others don’t. In Civil War he took on Bucky like it was no big deal and would have had him beaten if not for the Scarlet Witch. He would have also trapped Bucky and Captain America if not for the Black Widow and her interference. So yes, he’s awesome, but thinking that he’s going to be the man to beat when Avengers: Infinity War comes along is a bit of a stretch.
He’s intelligent, he’s strong, quick, durable, and his suit amps up his abilities to an even greater degree. But when it comes to sheer power and strength there are limits to the Black Panther that the MCU is going to have to realize. His suit can absorb a lot of punishment, that’s true, but there are limits to that as well as we’ve seen in the comics. It can only absorb so much and then that power has to be redirected or the suit might fail and possibly explode. Thanos, just by himself, would be capable of overloading the suit without much trouble. Thanos is after all a guy that can take on the likes of Galactus and hold his ground. He can pimp slap the Hulk and managed to kill Captain America with a backhand in the comic version of the Infinity Gauntlet. If not for his arrogance and his need to prove himself to Death then Thanos would have been the true killer of the Marvel universe.
The Black Panther is an awesome superhero and deserves his moment in the sun at this point. His movie will hopefully usher in a new phase in the MCU that will be nothing short of prosperous and could even, hopefully, keep the tradition of dominating the box office going. But despite how great he is I’m still waiting to see what he’s able to do in Infinity War since unlike some of the other heavy hitters he’s still just a man in a suit.
