Young and the Restless fans aren’t typically surprised when a storyline takes a line we don’t get. We know that when a show has been on the air five days per week for decades upon decades, it’s likely going to happen that there would be a story line that didn’t add up or work out for us in the year, but this year is one for the books. While there were some tremendous story lines with which to fall for, there were also a few that did nothing for any of us. And that is why we are taking some time this weekend to discuss those. The year is coming to a quick close here in a few days, and that means we want to bring to you our favorite — make that least favorite — story lines of the year. Do you feel these are the worst of 2018 or do you feel that there are other story lines that are just that much worse than these?
Arturo’s Love Triangle
We were not big fans of this one. For one, what was he doing with Nikki in the first place, and why is his family so obsessed with the Newman family? They all came right into town with some serious bad feelings, and we are still waiting to find out what their problem with the Newman family really is — and not just this stuff they keep spouting off to us like it’s really what the issue is. The fact that Nikki was even bothering with him is beyond us. She’d already spent time cheating on her husband this year with Jack, and then there was Arturo, and then there was us wondering why she even cares what they are up to and how they are living their lives. It’s not her business, and we are just over the fact that she’s always looking for a way to hurt Abby. She’s not her daughter, but she is her husband’s daughter, and that really should mean something to someone, right?
Chelsea — All of It
From the moment that Phyllis decided she was gunning for Chelsea for no apparent reason that we could see to her skipping town without warning to her actually becoming this horrible person we could not figure out at all, we are just so confused by all of this. She was perfectly normal one day and then she was a total wreck the next day and then she was gone. Not much of that made any sense to us, and we cannot figure it out. It was true that she was boring for a long while, and we were excited that we thought for a quick second that she would be more exciting and more interesting if we just gave her a chance, but we didn’t really know what else to do when she decided to just get up and go without any warning or any situation or anything that appeared to make any sense. We were confused, and we don’t get any of it. But that’s all right because we also know that she might just have something else to say if she ever comes back.
JT’s Change
So, we don’t condone his abusive behavior at all, but what the heck happened here? He’s not a new character, and we always knew him as a decent guy before he left years ago. He was never volatile or crazy even if he was a bit of a womanizer and a jerk sometimes. But all the men are, and he was certainly not the worst of them at all. But then he came back. He left Mac, their marriage was over, and he wanted to have another chance with Vickie and Reed and all of that. And then there was that moment when they were all fine and wonderful and she finally seemed happy, and then he abused her. And she fell apart, and then he was dead, and then there was even more happening, and now his dead body is haunting all of them for the better part of months and months and we are just as confused as ever. What is that all about?
