Will Rey Lose a Limb in Star Wars: The Last Jedi?

So it sounds like Rey is going to lose a limb in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It’s not set in stone obviously but the consensus is that since Anakin Skywalker lost a limb in Attack of the Clones and Luke Skywalker lost a hand in the Empire Strikes Back, it must be Rey’s turn to lose a limb in The Last Jedi. Some people that aren’t really fans but still like the story might think this sounds crazy but the design is simply too strict to be believed.

The theory is made with the assumption that Rey is in fact a Skywalker. This would mean that she’s either Luke’s daughter or Lei’s daughter, in which case she would be Ben’s twin. Both explanations would make sense considering how powerful she is in the force and the fact that she has such a strong, innate level of skill that allowed her to survive against Kylo Ren. But some people still have an issue with this since they’ve decided to call foul on Rey’s ability to somehow channel the Force without any training and without any idea of what she’s doing.

What they fail to realize is that Luke and Anakin both performed actions that should have been nearly impossible for a human to accomplish. Anakin was a podracer, which was notoriously dangerous and heavily favored individuals that were not human. Luke made a shot on the Death Star that no one should have been able to make, and he did it without a targeting computer or any other manner of help save for the Force. Despite all the arguments that still continue to pour in the fact that Rey was able to tap into the Force and use it so blatantly became proof positive that whoever her parents were at least one of them was very powerful in the Force.

Now getting back to the limb lopping. In each of the second films of both trilogies a Skywalker has gone up against a villain, notably a powerful Sith lord, who was been far more powerful and has handled them quite easily. It was foolish for Anakin to try and take on Count Dooku by himself just as it was for Luke to take on Darth Vader by himself. And yet Rey has taken on Kylo Ren and come away without a scratch. It might be time for her to suffer a loss in the next film simply because, if she is a Skywalker, it might be expected.

How exciting would it be though for her to break that trend? Something’s bound to happen, that much seems clear. But it would still be vastly impressive to see her do something that two great Jedi before her haven’t managed to accomplish, get past the second movie with all limbs intact. It doesn’t seem like such a thing will happen, but with new characters should come new chances to break free of the old and expected trends.
