John Boyega coming to the MCU sounds like an awesome idea, but there’s one superhero that even he wouldn’t want to play and it’s more out of respect for the man he thinks is right for the role. While some people have thought that he might be a nice addition to the Blade franchise Boyega has admitted that it might be akin to spitting in Wesley Snipes’ face and a lot of fans tend to agree. While the last two Blade movies weren’t all that great Snipes has still been pretty solid in the role and has expressed a desire to go back to it. Stepping into that role would seem to be kind of an insult in Boyega’s opinion. But there are a few different heroes that he could possibly play, and one really seems to stand out if they’re going to keep to the comics and not deviate too much.
Bishop, the energy-absorbing mutant member of the X-Men, is a character that is quite interesting but has never really been fully explored in the movies. Perhaps now that Disney has taken over 21st Century Fox and all its subsidiaries, the X-man could be given his proper due. Cable is breaking onto the scene after all in Deadpool 2, and he’s from the future, so why not Bishop? He’s far more interesting than he’s been made to appear in the only real film he had a presence in, and has the distinction of being raised to believe in the X-Men and to train like them in his own time. Like Cable he’s been able to find ways to time travel and has even had dealings with the X-Men, one of whom he dealt with in his own time. His connection to Gambit would be an interesting choice to highlight for a movie, as would the encounters he’s had with the X-Men ever since he first met them.
John Boyega’s star power is at an all-time high right now even if people know him more for Star Wars than for Pacific Rim: Uprising. It could be a while before he actually gets to the MCU, but when it’s time for him to make his way on over it could be something quite special if they treat him to a role that he can fit into easily. There are a lot of roles he should be able to manage, but Bishop seems like one of the most dynamic and one of those that needs to be told since it’s that interesting. After all we got to see him in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but his role was still kind of small compared to everyone else’s. This was the guy that was the bodyguard of Charles Xavier at one time, and the guy that took on a psychic assault that would have ended just about anyone else. It’s all in the comics if you’re wondering, but on the big screen Bishop could be someone worth watching.
It just remains to be seen what role he’d fit into once he makes his way over, if he does.
