Whatever Happened to the Cast of “The Almighty Johnsons?”

Imagine if the Norse gods of legend were reincarnated into human form and had little to no control over their powers. You’d have the Almighty Johnsons, a family that has come to realize just how powerful they can be but don’t have any of the necessary control that is required to handle their power. In order to make things right the reincarnated Odin has to find his reincarnated wife, Frigg, to balance things out. But along the way are three other goddesses that are attempting to thwart this attempt by finding Frigg first and dealing with her in a way that would be most unpleasant and disastrous to the Johnsons. By the end of the third series it seemed that things were getting a bit out of control, as a group of Maori gods appeared and started causing a ruckus. By that time however the series seemed pretty well on its way out, at least to the producers.

Let’s find out what happened to the cast.

Shane Cortese

Shane has remained steady in his work and has continued to act in TV since the show ended. In fact if he’s more than just a recurring character it almost seems as though he’s managed to land fairly big roles that have seen him coming back for multiple episodes.

Hayden Frost

Hayden hasn’t been in show business all that long as of yet as he’s got a rather sparse resume. In fact it looks as though he hasn’t done anything since 2015 and might not be coming back. There’s always hope that he might just be taking a break, but there are those that get a taste of the spotlight and decide that they don’t like it quite so much.

Ben Barrington

It’s interesting to note that some of the actors on this list haven’t been in show business for too many years and seem to be either just starting out or are somewhere in the middle of being experienced and being all too new to the spotlight. Ben has continued to act since the show but has yet to see if his contributions are really going to be remembered.

Jared Turner

Jared has been very busy since the show ended and has actually landed roles in shows like Ash vs. Evil Dead and The Shannara Chronicles, showing that he does have what it takes to break out of one role and move into another. His role in both shows wasn’t the lead but he does manage to put in a solid act as a supporting character.

Emmett Skilton

Emmett definitely seems to have an interest in the realm of the scifi and fantasy genres since he’s been seen in a couple of Power Rangers series now following The Almighty Johnsons. Either it’s an interest or someone thinks that his background speaks for itself when it came to casting him into the roles.

Tim Balme

The Almighty Johnson’s actually seems to have been Tim’s last big role that’s been noted but he does have credits ranging all the way back to the early 90s so it’s not really as though he’s a newbie that hung up his career shortly after one show went off the air. In fact he’s had a nice long career and it could be that he’s ready to take it easy or sit back and wait to see what comes along.

Dean O’Gorman

Dean is another guy that hit the ground running once the show was over since if you’ll recall he was the dwarf Fili in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, and he was also in the role of Kirk Douglas in Trumbo, a controversial movie if ever there was one. He’s kept quite busy since the show and at this time has another project in pre-production.

So obviously not every person from The Almighty Johnson’s found lasting success thus far but a lot of them have kept working and sticking their nose to the metaphorical grindstone in an attempt to make their careers into what they want rather than let them slip out of their fingers. The idea of gods being reincarnated into human bodies isn’t a bad idea really, but it does take a certain amount of finesse that the showrunners seemed to possess for a couple of seasons before it started to get away from them. When dealing with deities in a TV show however the big problem seems to be the budget for special effects, as big-time gods need to have big-time effects to really pull off their part in the show.

However put together it was or wasn’t however the idea did have merit, and if there’s any justice there might be a reboot in the works in the next decade or so since that seems to be the trend.
