We’ve Got New Updates on the Sesame Street Movie

Bert and Ernie

Things could get interesting since as Ryan Scott of MovieWeb has announced that Bo Burnham has been tapped by Warner Bros. to add a few new songs to the upcoming Sesame Street movie. Anyone that knows anything about Bo Burnham knows that his songs aren’t always family friendly, but given that this is for a kids’ show you can bet that he’s going to come up with a few songs that will be fully acceptable and quite welcome to the movie. After all Sesame Street is still, after all this time, a bastion of childhood that is fun to watch, experience, and has been with us for generations now. Those that have a chance to work with or on this show are often very appreciative since it’s something that can act as a serious boost to a career and a feather in a person’s hat that will be easy to note.

The only real downside of this movie is that we won’t get to see it until 2021, but that’s a minor matter really since to create the kind of movie that people will really want to see it’s going to take some time to make it perfect. Both puppetry and live action will be used for the movie and it’s been stated that Ann Hathaway will be joining the cast as well. The story thus far seems to go that the Sesame Street group will somehow be forced out of their home and made to wander around New York City. As Borys Kit from The Hollywood Reporter has alluded Ann Hathaway will be a big part of the upcoming movie. Meeting the group she gets the idea to prove that Sesame Street is real, but from that point on nothing else is really known for certain. There have been plenty of movies that have been based around Sesame Street over the years, but this one seems as though it’s finally going to take the group outside of their comfort zone and create a story that is much more developed than anything that’s come before.

What’s funny but also kind of telling is that this movie has been stewing since 2012, which means that it was put on the back burner for a while for whatever reason. It could be that the other movies didn’t do well enough, or it could be that the idea wasn’t fully developed yet. In any case it would seem that whoever’s in charge has finally decided that it’s worth it to dust this one off and bring it out into the open for people to look at finally. Why now is kind of hard to explain but it does seem as though Sesame Street might be making something of a comeback to prominence since it’s been making headlines and been pushed more and more throughout the last couple of years. One thing you can say for certain is that it’s never really gone away since people remember Sesame Street fondly and have held onto it for a long time. Certain characters have always been more popular than others, but the simple idea of Sesame Street has been that it’s one of the best kids’ shows ever made.

When you think about it, Sesame Street is perhaps one of the only real kids’ shows that has aimed for entertainment as well as education and has really nailed it on the head. You could argue the point that other shows have done the same throughout the years, but Sesame Street is undoubtedly one of the most influential and popular shows that has managed to last. With all the shows that have come and gone throughout the years, whether they’re educational or not, Sesame Street has watched them come and go. Even if the show had to make do with reruns, it’s still been there for people to see and to enjoy as much as possible while one show after another has been in and out throughout the years. It almost gives a person a sense of pride if they grew up with this show to realize that something they treasured while growing up has managed to last through multiple generations and has been fully enjoyed by so many.

Another year or so won’t be all that long when you really think about it, this movie will come and we’ll get to see our favorite characters on the big screen again, and the Sesame Street Legacy will continue. That might sound a bit anticlimactic but quite honestly it should since Sesame Street has been there for a lot of us during our younger years. Some folks might not have experienced this show as much as others, but those of us that remember the show in a fond manner are those that will likely see fit to at least check this movie out when it hits the big screen.
