As many of you have already read by now The Fyre Festival is under serious “fire” right now as its organizers are faced with a $100 million class action lawsuit on effectively tricking all of the attendees into going to an event that was dubbed as a luxurious “Coachella” experience that wound up more like something out of Lord of the Flies. But now there’s more. According to Uproxx
In a new suit filed in L.A. County Superior Court, the defendants allege they were tricked into attending the event thanks to a team of social media influencers that the organizers used to promote Fyre Festival. According to the brief, “Social media ‘influencers’ made no attempt to disclose to consumers that they were being compensated for promoting the Fyre Festival,”
This line of legal thinking lines up with what we learned from the pitch that the Fyre Festival organizers used to try and secure funds from investors. They put together a team of people to trumpet the festival, shooting for celebrity targets like Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski to help make their festival more enticing. It’s these efforts that apparently lays at the heart of this new case.
Allow me to briefly comment on this matter. With regards to the first lawsuit, give me a break. Did you know the organizers of the “event” have had shady dealings in the past as well as legal issues? Three words: “Do your research.” This is no different than if you were duped by Bernie Madoff. If you do your research, you’ll find a hole and these people deserve to have been duped.
It’s the second lawsuit that I think has validity. If you’re being told that you will be paid for this, that’s another story. But even then, what about a contract? My gut is telling me that the majority of the people that wet to Fyre Festival were suckers. I could be wrong but this just seems way too fishy. Either these guys are really great at sales or they were dealing with morons. I think it’s al little bit of both.
So Fyre Fest is a complete disaster. Mass chaos. No organization. No one knows where to go. There are no villas, just a disaster tent city. pic.twitter.com/1lSWtnk7cA
