Academy Award-winning actress, Viola Davis, has proven to the world what the combination of hard work and talent can produce. While her journey to the top of her craft has not been an easy one, she has remained steadfast in her approach to achieving excellence in her field. One of the reasons that Viola has been so successful is that she follows her passions and she does not rest on her laurels. In line with this idea, the talented and beautiful actress has signed to write a sequel to the successful children’s picture book, Corduroy.
The original book introduced a story about a bear named Corduroy who takes children on an exciting adventure through his life – creating a world of entertainment and a learning experience simultaneously. The original book was authored by Don Freeman and illustrated by Jody Wheeler.
Picture books have proven to be invaluable in teaching people of all ages, but they are extremely instrumental in creating lasting impressions that have the power to help children with the development of their self-image or self-concept. The brain stores memories in the form of images; therefore, when the initial impression originates in the form of an image, the interpretation of the image creates the memory, which also forms a belief associated with the interpretation of the image.
The positive images and stories in books like Corduroy help create young minds that are imaginative, innovative and creative – producing the next generation of leaders in every field.
Davis has had unique and empowering experience with the book, both as a child and as a parent, and it is likely these positive experiences that help develop a self-image that serviced the self-confidence that has underwritten her success and longevity in a very competitive and unforgiving industry.
Writing the second installment for what will like being a continuing experience has presented Davis with an opportunity to contribute to something that will likely empower generations to come. The title of the sequel will be “Corduroy Takes a Bow.” While we know the title, we have not yet been provided to the specifics surrounding the storyline; however, we can be sure that Corduroy will emerge triumphant and successful by the time the book comes to the end. Children’s stories always end this way.
Viola has become known as one of the most gifted and successful actresses in Hollywood, with films like “Fences” and “The Help” to her credit. She won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Fences and she has been nominated twice, for Best Actress in “The Help” and Best Supporting Actress in “Doubt.” She is also the star of one of television’s hottest drama series, “How to Get Away with Murder.”
It is not sure what created this opportunity for Davis, but Viking Children’s Books has proved its confidence in the film star by inking a deal with her that makes her the next author is a book series that has proven to be immensely successful, selling over a million copies. If you are a fan of the first, you are probably excited to hear about this news. I know that I am.
