Redditor Elly Gibson, 25, wanted a place in her home that was fit for a king, something that her 17-year-old Maine coon – aptly named Arthur – most certainly is. So she grabbed some scissors, glue and paint and got straight to work on her DIY project.

“I was looking at this cardboard box, a shoebox for children’s boots that my mom had mailed me something in, and I was thinking I could make Arthur a new bed,” Elly told Just Something about her Game of Thrones inspired creation.

“I opened it up and it already kind of looked like a chair, so I thought I could make a throne, since we often call him King Arthur. And then I realized the best throne to make would be the Iron Throne.”

There was no great plan to the execution, Elly says she just kinda made it up as she went along. Beginning with a simple box, she first added cut-out swords, and then a base at the bottom which created the throne-like shape. A few details here and there, and it’s all starting to come together.

A nice coat a black paint followed – and some silver on top to add that icy sheen we know so well.

Arthur still wasn’t having it though, something was missing. “I sewed a little cushion for his fat booty,” Elly said. The throne was complete!

Now this majestic cat can take his rightful place of King of the House, he is very happy with his new spot. “Arthur loves sitting and lying in it!” Elly says.

“He likes to rub his face in it. He is definitely the head of the house, so it’s fitting. We also have two large dogs, and they are pretty submissive to Arthur”.

So now Arthur can happily lord it over his canine siblings, and live out the rest of his days with a quiet dignity. “Our beautiful cat 17 years old. He was my husband’s pet cat from childhood and we’re very lucky to still have Arthur in our lives.”
