There’s a question of why Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel’s show hasn’t been able to get an interview with Lebron James at NBA Media Day by so far, and it seems to be mostly that James can’t really stand Guillermo. Maybe it’s because of the questions he asks or the fact that he’s a little obnoxious. But hey, he’s from the Jimmy Kimmel show, it’s kind of expected of him to be the annoying sidekick that only followers of the show would really know about. Given that the questions he asks the athletes in the clip are kind of ridiculous it doesn’t seem to be much of a mystery why Lebron wouldn’t want to talk to him.
But in finding out what Lebron James is like you’d really have to talk to other people that know him a lot better since with athletes and celebrities it always comes down to a very divided matter of who says what and who knows the person the best. Some athletes act like out and out jerks to people when they’re seen in public, either because they don’t want to be bothered or they’re simply full of themselves for various reasons. Obviously Lebron would have a lot of call to be full of himself, he’s an NBA superstar and has amassed the kind of fame and wealth for his skills that a lot of people would kill for. But is that really a reason to be kind of a jerk? Some people would actually say yes and others would condemn the man and say of course not, there’s no reason for it. Whichever way you go with this opinion it tends to alienate some people and support the ideas of others.
Guillermo is the late night sidekick that can be funny or obnoxious really. He can be someone that you think is hilariously funny and then turn around and be the guy that you’d love to dropkick though the nearest goalpost. He serves a purpose on Kimmel’s show and that’s to be comic relief that gets to go out and either irritate people or make them laugh. I can still recall when Kimmel was the guy that did this kind of thing, but in all honesty he had a much better delivery. Guillermo does his best but he comes off more like a kid trying to get the attention of the adults with some whimsical little act that a lot of people don’t fully enjoy. He’s funny, but it’s an irritating kind of funny that’s really hard to get behind since it’s more or less like having a yipping dog at your heels trying to get your attention.
So Lebron might be kind of a jerk in ways but there’s a pretty good reason why he wouldn’t be talking to Guillermo at this point. Maybe if the guy calmed down just a bit Lebron might talk to him, or maybe if he came up with a few questions that weren’t flat out ridiculous it would work. But hey, he did get to talk to him finally.
