Released in late 1990, the song Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) by C&C Music Factory was an automatic hit. In movies and in TV it’s been seen as one of the more popular songs to play when the moment calls for it. The only trouble was that while Martha Wash sang the actual lyrics, Zelma Harris got the credit for it. This changed when Wash brought forth two lawsuits that had the desired effect of adding a disclaimer to the song that Wash was to be credited for the lyrics and Harris would be credited for the visualization. The song itself became a smash hit though and is still enjoyed thoroughly by many when they hit the dance floor.
5. Evan Almighty-Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)
Thou shalt do the dance. Evan Almighty was kind of a step down from the already heavily-criticized Bruce Almighty and instead of granting him the god-like powers that Bruce had to deal with, Evan gets to play the role of Noah. Of course this seriously messes with his life since as a US senator a robe, beard, and long hair aren’t exactly the preferred look of those that are holding office in the nation’s capital.
4. The Simpsons-Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)
Home is on a quest of sorts to show Bart just how real men work in order to give him a lesson on how to grow up to be a man. Unfortunately he happens to take Bart to a place where the men work hard and they play even harder. This was a point in the show when sexual orientation and what it meant to be a man was rampant in society. Obviously to be a man it doesn’t take being a roughneck, it just takes a good role model.
3. Jarhead-Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)
It seems like even good soldiers would want to let off some steam from time to time and engage in a little fun in the sun. But this seems to take it to extremes since it’s going against the orders of their commanding officer. It’s also kind of a lewd display that a lot of people back home would frown at and turn off if they saw it. But really, blowing off steam in the middle of the desert after being run ragged is probably a better idea than being wound too tight.
2. The Office-Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)
Do you get the sense that Steve Carrell likes this song? He does a dance to it in Evan Almighty and then he blasts it through the building during The Office. If more office spaces were run like this one the productivity might actually go up since having fun in the workplace shouldn’t be frowned upon unless the work isn’t getting done. So long as things are proceeding as normal it shouldn’t be hard to have a bit of fun.
1. Space Jam-Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)
When a group of aliens steal the basketball talent from a bunch of NBA superstars in an attempt to enslave the Looney Tunes there’s only one person that they can look to in order to save them. Of course it’s Michael Jordan. Who else could take on so many superstars and be able to claim victory?
The music is my life.
