If you love The Walking Dead, you know that you never know what to expect. Just when it starts to look like Rick and his group have a good thing going, something happens. They found a great place in the prison. They had animals, they were growing crops, they had a strong group, and some very high walls. Unfortunately, thanks to The Governor, that all went south. Next, they found solace in Alexandria. Unfortunately, that all went bad too thanks to the Wolves and other issues, some right inside of the gates. Finally, let’s not forget Terminex. That was the place different groups spend several episodes trying to find, only to come pretty close to becoming the leaders’ dinner. Like every other season of The Walking Dead, season 6 did had some pretty crazy moments as well. Here are ten that we loved.
The Walkers in the Quarry
After the first couple seasons of Walking Dead, the walker stopped being the biggest threat on the show. It started to be the end of humanity that became the problem. People had to fear other people more than they had to fear the walkers. This changed at the beginning of season 6. There was a huge herd of walkers by the quarry heading right towards Alexandria. The group worked very hard to send the herd in a different direction. As soon as you heard the loud horn blaring, it was a sign that there were bad things to come.
The Brutal Death of Paula
When Carol and Maggie are taken hostage by the Saviors, it is a very frightening time for both of them. In true Walking Dead fashion, they were able to turn the tables on Paula just in the nick of time. During a pretty brutal fight, Paula is thrown onto a spike which impales her. Unfortunately for Paula, she didn’t die right away. A lucky walker was standing by and started ripping her cheek apart while she screamed. It was good for Maggie and Carol because they were able to get away. It was, however, a brutal end for Paula.
Jessie Takes Control
It seems like forever ago that we saw Jessie, but it was actually in season 6. After surviving an abusive relationship, she had to deal with a terrified son and one who was starting to lose his mind. When the Wolves attacked Alexandria, Jessie’s problems just go worst. When a female member of the menacing gang burst into Jessie’s house ready to attack, Jessie finally showed what she was made of. She took a pair of her hairdressing scissors and bludgeoned her attacker. It was very brutal, but Jessie proved that she could protect herself if possible.
Zombie Deanna
When Deanna died during the mid-season finale, it was difficult for many viewers. She was the leader and then was ready to hand over the reigns to Rick and his group because they were more able to handle things. Her character grew into someone the audience loved and respected. After she died, we thought that we had seen the end of her. This is why it was such a shock when Michonne and Spencer found her wandering in the woods in zombie form. It wasn’t expected, and seeing the pain in Spencer’s face when he knew what had to be done was heartbreaking. She was his mother after all.
Enid Eating the Tortoise
During season 6, we had a chance to see how Enid found herself alone in a very dangerous world. While it was heartbreaking, we got to see how desperate and resourceful the young woman had become. She saw a tortoise crawling through the woods and she jumped at the opportunity to have a good meal. She had no problem eating the tortoise. This scene showed the audience that it is not just adults who will do anything to survive.
Denise’s Death
Denise was a great character. When Alexandria’s doctor met his untimely demise, Denise had to take over. She had some medical training, but nothing like the group’s original doctor. She went out of her way to save a number of lives with the help of what little medical knowledge that she had, textbooks, and encouragement from members of the group. Denise even found love with another woman. She wanted to go on a run in hopes of finding a can of orange soda for her love interest. In the middle of giving an impassioned speech, an arrow went through her head. It came out of nowhere and it took everyone by surprise. Denise’s death was as shocking as it was sad.
Rich and Michonne
After Rick’s wife died, fans thought that he would be single forever. Then he met Jessie. Rick and Jessie had chemistry, even when her husband were alive. When her husband was gone, fans were cheering for a Rick and Jessie love affair. Unfortunately, Jessie was killed and that was the end. Many fans were sad about that. When Rick and Michonne hooked up so soon after Jessie’s death, it was a shock for everyone and a disappointment for those who loved Rick and Jessie. It came out of nowhere, now all we can do is watch and see where it goes. Hopefully, Michonne doesn’t meet the same fate as Rick’s other two love interests.
The Wolves Invade Alexandria
When the wolves invaded Alexandria and the group’s strongest people were busy trying to make the quarry walkers move in a different direction, you could almost feel the fear that the remaining residents felt. Just the appearance of the wolves alone is frightening enough. When we saw them ripping up the streets and attacking the residents, it was even more frightening. As soon as the Wolves burst through the gates of Alexandria, we knew that nothing would ever be the same.
Glenn Isn’t Dead!
At the end of season 5, when fans believed that after what Glenn had gone through that he was dead, we were devastated. We all love Glenn. He is the first person that Rick ever had contact with. He saved Rick’s life by getting him from the tank in the middle of the walker-filled streets to safety. Since then, he did his part for the group, no questions asked. When it looked as though he died, fans rejoiced in season 6 when we saw that he was actually alive. The blood squirting everywhere was from Nicholas’ blood, not Glenn’s. Glenn was pinned under the dumpster the whole time, safe from the walkers. It was one of the most shocking and joyous moments of the season.
The Cliffhanger
It is the last scene that kept viewers talking from the end of season 6 all the way to the beginning of season 7. Rick and his group believed that if they killed off all of the Saviours, that there would be no more threat. Sadly, they found that this wasn’t true. For all of the Saviors that they killed, there were more dangerous ones waiting. When pregnant Maggie needed medical attention, the Saviours cut them off at every pass. Finally, when they were blocked in, things really got bad. At the end of season 6, Neagan, the leader, has many members of the group on the ground on their knees. He is wielding a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire, and he is trying to decide whose head he is going to bash in so that Rick and his group can pay for what they have done. The producers of the Walking Dead managed to keep the person on the other end of that baseball bat a secret. When it was revealed on the first episode of season 7, it was not what viewers expect.
Every season of the Walking Dead has had its “Oh My Gosh” moments. The events listed above are season six’s best. There have already been plenty more already in season 7. But how much can this show do? At what point is it going to stop?
