“Top Gear” Viewers Get a Shock as Car Catches Fire with Hosts Inside It

It doesn’t do much for Top Gear’s reputation when the car they’re driving goes up in flames, especially when the hosts are in it. Of course there are a lot of fans that watch the show that think that the current hosts aren’t as great as the original guys that used to host the show, but no one wants to see anyone get barbecued. There’s been no report just yet of what caused the fire that fully engulfed the Alpine A110, but thankfully they got out okay. It seems obvious to say that it must have been something that didn’t get thoroughly checked out before the guys took the car out, but then it seems like things can happen pretty much anywhere.

What people wouldn’t expect is flames licking up from the bottom of the car they’re in, especially when the safety of the people driving is supposed to be the top priority. But maybe something got knocked loose when they were driving. All in all they were fortunate to get out in time, as the car was completely overtaken by flames only seconds after they were out. Cars catching fire isn’t something you generally want to see on a show unless that’s part of what the show happens to be about. There’s not much doubt that the wreckage will be checked to see just what went wrong since it seems kind of silly to think that it might have been sabotage of any sort. If that was the case then you know it would be a huge deal in the media, but since nothing has come up as of yet you can pretty much assume that it was a mechanical failure that wasn’t easily spotted.

Being in a car when it catches fire is no joke really since depending on the vehicle it could be fairly easy or kind of difficult to get out in time. Most people wouldn’t think too hard about the ease of getting in and out of a car that fast but when your butt’s about to be on fire it might become a concern very quickly. On a show such as this when people are watching it’s very important that the hosts not be shown becoming crispy critters so while you can assume that this wasn’t a stunt it’s also a good thing that the men are in good shape and can really move when they need to. Some shows seem to laugh this off and just keep going with their broadcast, but if they’re smart then they at least acknowledge that something went wrong and that while everyone’s okay, this is not the norm. Regular viewers would know this of course and possibly worry for just a short time before going back to watch again.

The flames must have been pretty high if they managed to see them before getting out, which means that their butts must have been close to burning at that point. At least they had the good sense to stop quickly and get out.
