And there he is, my man Bill Murray on the Yelling Game! Oh this is just too awesome. I’ve been a Bill Murray fan since watching his old clips on SNL and have loved watching every film of his, at least until he got serious and started moving away from comedy. I’ve even watched some of his more serious movies and he’s still awesome. But when it comes to yelling this guy is one of the best. He’s excitable, he’s wild, and he’s so much fun that you just want to start yelling to join in and be a part of the fun. So let’s get to it with Mr. Murray and see what he’s got!
Here’s to you Mr. Murray, take it away!
5. Scrooged
Frank Cross knows he’s got payback coming for a life spent being mean to people and he generally doesn’t care. If you look at the scene in his office you’ll see the definition of ‘cross’ is ‘a thing they nail people to’. Well when things start to go wonky for him on Christmas Eve he quickly finds out that he has a lot more coming to him than he originally believed.
4. Caddyshack
Carl’s not the brightest ball in the case, but he’s one of the funniest guys in the film if not THE funniest. This scene was actually improvised by Bill and was kept in because it was so hilarious. There was a running rivalry between Bill Murry and Chevy Chase during this movie since the two were always trying to upstage one another. I think Murray got the better end of that one.
3. Kingpin
Ernie McCracken is just a flat out jerk. He’s a funny jerk but he’s still a jerk that you can’t wait to see lose in the film. Unfortunately at the end he does wind up winning the final game and even ‘accidentally’ taking Roy’s fake hand off and throwing it into the crowd. That’s okay, Big Ern’ got his payback we assume since he had enough people looking for him that his life would have been spent looking over his shoulder.
2. Stripes
John is not the ideal soldier, but he’s also not the kind of guy to just let his squad fail and be sent back to basic training. That’s why somehow, some way, he and Russell manage to get this ragtag group of soldiers that are seen as rejects by everyone else into presentable shape within a single night. It might never happen in real life but it was impressive here.
1. Ghostbusters
He might not be the most spiritual person around but one thing Peter Venkman does love is his city, and it shows when he takes it to the Stay Puft man alongside the others after the walking marshmallow decides to tromp on a nearby church. Hey, I might not be into organized religion either but if that church is a part of my hometown I’m with Peter, I’d blast the puffy bugger too.
All hail to thee Bill Murray, one of the funniest men in existence.
