Everyone loves a good cooking competition, right? We love to see those who can make the finest and most delicious of dishes, and win the grand prize at the end for their efforts, just as we see on shows like ‘Top Chef’. Of course, as with many of the competition shows that we see on the air today, producers will have contestants sign contracts that swear them to secrecy beyond any level. They are not allowed to talk about or mention any of the events that can and/or will occur on the set (that is, until the specific episode airs). And this isn’t just one contract, folks. These contestants end up signing dozens of waivers, papers, and contracts that swear them to secrecy that could lead to some serious reprimands as well.
Pick And Choose
Many of the episodes, especially those naming who will be entering the semifinals and finales, have coding that can help audiences figure out who will really be entering the finale and who won’t. One major clue will be the cameras. Producers tell the cameramen which tents or stations to film at, and which ones to only get a clip or two from. Obviously, the tents that are getting more of the camera time more than likely feature the dishes of the contestants who will indeed be moving on in the show. It may seemed rigged, in a sense, but honestly, we just aren’t sure if that’s how it truly goes on the show.
Buzzing In The Ear
This is probably the most interesting of the secrets that we will unveil in this article. For those that are super fans of ‘Top Chef’, they will know the name Padma Lakshmi, who is the host on the show and who works with the judges as well. It has been revealed that during the show, Padma Lakshmi is the only one (in the grouping of the judges) who wears an in ear device to hear what the producers have to say about what’s going on, and to give her instructions while she is in the middle of filming. This also ties into the judges incoherence as well, as they have no idea about what on set drama might be had between certain contestants during the show and the season itself.
Of course, we are sure that there are more behind the scenes secrets that are had, especially when it comes to shows such as ‘Top Chef’. Although some of these things may seem a bit shocking and unnecessary, the do end up allowing the show to run smoothly, and for viewers to enjoy it from the comforts of their home.
