Tom Hardy’s Deleted ‘The Last Jedi’ Cameo Will Be Included On the Blu-Ray Release

Tom Hardy was one of the people who were mentioned as having cameos in The Last Jedi. For those who are curious, he appeared as a stormtrooper who recognized Finn when Finn and Rose were in their First Order disguises, which would have seen him express surprise that Finn had become an officer. Something that would have been interesting because it would have suggested that the First Order had not spread the news of Finn’s defection throughout its ranks. Unfortunately, Tom Hardy’s cameo was cut from the theatrical release of The Last Jedi, but it has been stated that it will be included in the eventual release of the movie on DVD and Blu-ray, which will be happening at some point in the middle of 2018.

What Are Some of the Other Scenes that Were Cut?

Of course, it should come as no surprise to learn that Tom Hardy’s cameo was far from being the sole piece of footage that was cut from the theatrical release of The Last Jedi. For example, there was a scene of one more of Luke’s lessons for Rey, which was cut because it proved to be too mean-spirited in nature. What happened was that Rey would have asked Luke about boats docking on the island, which would have prompted Luke to answer that they were pirates who were going to raid the caretakers of the island. However, instead of heading out to help the caretakers, Luke stated that a true Jedi would have ignored the problem because intervening would have resulted in the pirates returning in greater force in the future. Unsurprisingly, Rey is less than pleased by the reasoning, with the result that she runs off to help the caretakers to find out that what she was told was a pirate raid was actually a party. As a result, Rey and Luke have one more confrontation, which would have resulted in some serious disillusionment on Rey’s part and Luke realizing that he had gone too far even though he had intended to tell Rey the truth before she ran off. Summed up, while the scene would have provided further context for Rey’s choice to head out on her own, it is not hard to see why it was cut considering how it would have made Luke look.

Other examples of footage cut from the theatrical release of The Last Jedi are both numerous and wide-ranging in nature. For example, there was a scene of Rose expressing what seemed a lot like jealousy over the exact nature of Finn’s relationship with Rey. Furthermore, there was a scene of Phasma gunning down a group of stormtroopers who were wavering when told the truth of what had happened at Starkiller Base by Finn, which would have fit well with the revelation of her being a thoroughly selfish and self-interested person in secondary material.

Further Considerations

Regardless, it seems probable that a lot of these scenes will be making their way into the DVD and Blu-ray releases in one form or another. As a result, when The Last Jedi comes out in the middle of 2018, it will be interesting to see how they affect the overall movie.
