Tokyo’s Giant Gundam is Disassembled And It’s Kinda Strange To Watch

Both Japan and China are known for having some humongous statues of figures you might find in a video game, anime show, or movie.  While we’re just getting started with giant figures (take The Iron Hulk for example) we haven’t even begun to reach a level that these countries have.   While we might be in the 20-30 foot range for a “giant” figure China has seen giant statues rise above 100 feet.  One of the most famous figures in the world is the Giant Gundam statue in Japan.

For fans of the statue they might have known that the statue was taken down on March 5th.  This fall a 65-foot statue of the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam from the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn series will replace the RX-78-2 in front of Diver City.  But to watch the original statue get taken down was a site to see, especially when it’s head was taken off.

Naturally, plenty of spectators were on hand to witness the robot being dismantled, and the resulting photos and videos are kinda surreal.  Below you’ll find a series of tweets that sees nearly the entire process taking place.
