Tiffany Haddish has been playing various roles in various movies and TV shows for some time. For example, some people might recognize her as Nekeisha Williams-Carmichael, who was the titular character’s brother’s estranged wife turned not so estranged ex-wife. However, more people should recognize her as Dina on Girls Trip, which was a 2017 movie that managed to make several times its production budget by bringing in $140 million at the box office. Besides, it should be noted that 2017 was a very successful year for Haddish for other reasons as well, with an excellent example being how she wrote a book that managed to make it onto The New York Times‘s Best Seller List. Summed up, Haddish made quite an impact on the cultural landscape in 2017, which explains why HBO is now so interested in her future projects.
For those who are curious, Haddish has signed a first-look deal with HBO, meaning that it will have first dibs on her future projects. If Issa Rae’s similar-looking deal with HBO is any indication, this could mean that we will soon see a number of Haddish-headed projects at HBO, seeing as how Rae is working on multiple projects there right now. However, since Haddish’s deal has just been announced, it should come as no surprise to learn that there is no real concrete information about what we can expect from her collaboration with HBO.
With that said, knowing nothing about what Haddish might do with HBO in the future does not mean the same as knowing nothing about what Haddish might do in 2018. For example, we know that Haddish is set to star in a sitcom called The Last O.G., which will be featuring Tracy Morgan as well. Not too much information has been released about the sitcom, but it is interesting to note that it will be the first time that Haddish will be playing the lead role in a sitcom, which makes sense considering her success in 2017. Besides The Last O.G., Haddish will also be involved with a couple of movies. One will be Limited Partners with Paramount Pictures. Meanwhile, the other will be Night School, which will be seeing Haddish starring alongside Kevin Hart. In particular, it is interesting to note that the Girls Trip director Malcolm D. Lee will be directing Night School as well, meaning that one can’t help but wonder whether he will be able to repeat his previous success. Regardless, it is clear that these projects mean that Haddish will be having a very busy year in 2018.
People who liked Haddish’s acting as well as her sense of humor in 2017 might want to keep a close eye on her upcoming projects in 2018. Furthermore, they might want to consider getting a HBO subscription as well because if she manages to maintain her chain of successes, multiple HBO projects in her future are more or less certain. Something that should come as welcome news to a lot of people out there if her successes from 2017 are any indication.
