In any sporting event it’s easy for an athlete to lose their temper. Competition is stiff. The pressure is high. When so much is riding on a particular game or even moment in a game sometimes players lose their heads and do things they’re not allowed to do. In basketball you get a technical foul if you curse or speak out at a ref. In hockey you get sent to the penalty box. In baseball you might get tossed from the game. Each sport has their own respective rules when disciplining its players. But what do you do if a guy punches a referee square in the jaw?
Honestly I’ve never seen something like this in my life and never thought that I would. But here it is, as plain sight as it could possibly be.
A French rugby league player is facing a life-time ban after cold-cocking a referee who pulled a yellow card on him. The referee was knocked unconscious and suffered severe cheek and jawbone injuries. The Saint-Esteve player, who has not been identified, has already been suspended for four matches this season for reckless behavior, according to St-Esteve president Christian Cozza. The president of the French Federation, Marc Palanques, said that the hammer needs to be dropped on this guy: “I hope that the National Disciplinary Commission, which will meet on Wednesday, will be uncompromising.”
This is absolutely brutal and this guy deserves no free passes, no passing go, no nothing but a lifetime ban and serious lawsuit for those injuries.
The most disgraceful thing I have ever seen on a rugby field. You won't be needing boots again for life that is mate. Life ban Booom! pic.twitter.com/xNQ0SEplwc
