Thanks to Clarisse Loughrey from the Independent for being one of those to bring this to people’s attention, as it’s pretty cool for those that are LEGO lovers and very impressive for those that just want to take a look and be amazed. Quite honestly LEGO is probably one of the only toys that could get away with doing this so easily since honestly the design is perfect and all it would take is creating a playset that would support the kind of dynamic that’s needed. It does seem like kind of a dark idea for a toy company but at the same time if we’re going to split hairs in that fashion then there are a lot of toys that would have to be taken off the market for being too dark, too crazy, and simply too aggressive for kids. If that happened you can imagine the PC crowds would be smiling from ear to ear. Thankfully we’re not vapid enough for that nonsense and this set is something too special for mere words. But we’ll give it a go anyway.
As Sean Hollister from The Verge reveals this set is upwards of $200 cost-wise and features well over 2,000 pieces. That’s a lot of money for a LEGO set and a lot of time invested in getting it just right, especially if you’re giving it to a kid. This is the kind of thing that older kids or those that are such big LEGO fanatics would enjoy, it’s not exactly the kind of toy you would give to a kid that gets bored after a couple of minutes of building. The amount of time you’d need for something like this seems to be pretty extensive since there’s a great amount of detail in the set and it definitely captures the whole idea of the Byer’s home, right down to the Christmas lights on the wall apparently. You’ve got to hand it to toy companies for realism sometimes, even if they kind of jump the gun with some toys.
Admittedly the Demogorgon kind of looks like a strange cross between ET and Roger from American Dad, but given that it has two different head pieces, one with its flaps open and one with them closed, that’s still pretty cool just to think about. John Fingas of Endgadget has stated that if you’re a LEGO VIP member that it’s possible to obtain one of these sets now, but otherwise the rest of us will have to wait until June 1st when it ships. So it might still take a while to really enjoy, but thankfully there’s not a whole lot of time left until they’re here. Some people might laugh and say that a toy based on a show isn’t all that special but a lot of fans might laugh right back and say that the person speaking doesn’t know what it means to be a fan or believe in anything that makes their world feel just a little special. That’s an argument for another time though since quite honestly in speaking of Stranger Things toys this is one of many that has gained the kind of attention that is actually worth it. LEGO has been entertaining millions of fans throughout the years with an untold number of playsets that feature everything from the most generic setting to movie and TV settings that people have come to truly appreciate. The fact that Stranger Things has become noticed by the company and therefore used as a means of gaining more attention for both the company and the show is nothing short of awesome.
On that note though it seems fair to start talking about Stranger Seasons 3 and what we might hope to expect when it finally comes to pass. Maybe LEGO will start thinking of a set for Stranger Things season 2 and then 3 if the fans are willing to wait just a bit longer. There were after all plenty of instances during the second season where just a bit of imagination could possibly come into play and make a set that would continue to entertain the fans and give them something to do for a few hours. Thankfully none of these sets are really that easy to put together unless you’re a LEGO master, and even then it’s going to take a good amount of time since finding the pieces, parsing them out into piles or just keeping them near so you don’t lose them is bound to soak up a few hours if not longer. For the price of the set one might think that a person would gladly take their time and get it right, and possibly seal them together once it was all said and done so that no one could accidentally ruin their work. Of course that might just be me talking.
