The Good Doctor is an American medical drama television series that debuted on September 25, 2017. The series is based on the South Korean series of the same name which ran between August 5 and October 8, 2013. The Good Doctor was brought to American audiences after executive producer, Daniel Dae Kim who is known for his roles in Lost and Hawaii Five-0 noticed the original South Korean series and bought the rights to the show for his film and television production company, 3AD.
The series stars Freddie Highmore as Shaun Murphy, a young autistic surgeon with a troubled past from a small town. He then relocates to California to work at a prestigious hospital. Nicholas Gonzalez also stars as Dr. Neil Melendez a surgeon in charge of the surgical residents. Dr. Claire Browne a surgical resident who has a close friendship with Shaun Murphy is portrayed by Antonia Thomas. The Good Doctor was developed by David Shore who created the iconic medical drama TV series, House, M.D. Since the series’ debut in September 2017, The Good Doctor has generally received mixed reviews from critics, however, the show has been nominated for several prestigious awards throughout its run.
