The Five Best Henry Cavill Movies of His Career

Henry Cavill hasn’t fallen on hard times or anything, but he’s no longer a part of the DCEU, which is surprising since out of the few actors that have played Superman in the last few decades he’s been one of those that definitely had the look that was needed. Unfortunately he didn’t really get the best script or the best material to work with, and as a result his Superman came off a bit flat, not for a lack of trying though. Thankfully he’s had a stable career for long enough that such a thing shouldn’t be able to keep him down for long considering that he’s got enough acting ability to keep going and find something else that he can excel in. You never know, a switch to the MCU might do him a world of good since his dark and brooding look might fit in a little better in a future MCU film. Oh wouldn’t DC fans just love that?

Here are a few of the best films of his career to date.

5. The Count of Monte Cristo

Bet a lot of you don’t remember that he was in this movie huh? As it goes this film wasn’t highly thought of though it did depict the classic tale in a way that was acceptable and even well-done despite its lack of exposure in general. The Count of Monte Cristo was a man that was bent on revenge through any means, and going through the son of his nemesis was a perfect ploy, until he learned that the boy was actually his. In fact he almost kills his son before his mother enters the scene and reveals the truth, saving his life as the Count is forced to square off with his enemy one last time.

4. Immortals

This movie kind of flopped even though the visuals were amazing. Theseus was by far one of the best warriors to ever hit the big screen and yet the film got downplayed so poorly that it barely saw the light of day before it was dropped down to the DVD section. Here is another place where Cavill got to shine as he took his shirt off for much of the time and got to expose his killer physique. His skills with the blade and just about any other weapon he got his hands on was insane as well as mesmerizing since it’s pretty obvious he put a good amount of training into his movements in order to make it look just right.

3. The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Any film where natural enemies have to work together for a common goals tends to be pretty interesting since it’s like putting oil and water together to see if they’ll ever mix. But when the two opposing forces finally agree at the very end that the goal they were seeking is better off not going to either of their benefactors it’s even better since it does instill a bit of morality within the human race that makes it possible to believe in humanity again, even if it’s just for the sake of the movie. Ever notice how Cavill, once he got big and buff, kind of went the route of being a fighter or a spy in the movies? Both parts are believable, but it’s also a good way to get typecast.

2. Mission Impossible: Fallout

No one likes to see their favorite heroes getting old, but Ethan Hunt is really starting to get up there since he can’t shake off as much as he used to when he would get into a scuffle with someone. When he has to get into it with Cavill’s character, who’s a skilled assassin, it becomes a fight to the death that Ethan wins obviously but not without some serious damage to his own body. It was very easy not to trust Cavill’s character in this film since from the start he was pitted against Hunt and his team, no matter that he was there to watch and observe at first and only act if it was in the agency’s best interests.

1. Man of Steel

It’s okay to admit that people were biting their nails in anticipation for this movie to come out since Superman has long been one of the favorite superheroes that’s ever been penned or acted out on the big screen. But this Superman was a lot different than a lot of people were expecting. He brooded more, he was a lot darker, and for the most part no one can ever recall Superman being a drifter throughout his long history. There are moments that he’s fallen from grace in the comics, but this was something that a lot of folks found they couldn’t get behind since Superman has almost always been a beacon of hope to those that adore him, and this version was something a bit darker.

Henry Cavill still has a lot left in the tank, but it might be time to switch sides or find something else that doesn’t involve him being the big tough guy.
