There’s a pretty interesting idea on the way with The Broken and the Bad as Giancarlo Esposito heads up the show. Anyone ever wondered if the events on Breaking Bad might be realistic or not? Well, Giancarlo will be exploring the details of this as he outlines just which parts of the show were actually realistic in nature and how they pertain to other stories that actually happened. It’s a different kind of documentary series and it already sounds like a great idea since it’s blending one of America’s favorite TV series with big dose of realism that should hopefully catch the attention of a lot of people given that Breaking Bad managed to attract such a large fan base. It does feel as though limiting the run is a good idea however since otherwise it sounds as though things could possibly run dry after a while or start repeating in a way that would force interest to drop off in a big way. But having the actor that played one of the worst villains on the show as a host will no doubt be quite intriguing since his mere presence is enough to get a lot of people interested and will no doubt have a lot of people at least curious to see what the show is all about.
Gus Fring was without any doubt one of the most vicious villains that was featured on Breaking Bad and in some ways though he was kind of a tragic character since he had to watch his friend be killed. This did bring him back for revenge though and it did give him the drive he needed to be one of the worst since after taking out the competition he did become a rather scary individual. To think that there might be people out there like Gus, which is one of the main points of this show, is kind of frightening since that level of dedication to the destruction of another person is nothing short of scary. What’s more though is that Gus isn’t really the only character that Giancarlo has ever played that’s downright terrifying, since he’s played some downright psychotic and even just plain old bad characters in the past. His style of acting is great though since he can be calm, cool, and collected like Gus, but be explosive and ready to commit some serious violence at the drop of a hat. He can also play a pretty decent protagonist as well, though the fact that his act lends itself so well to villains is probably why we don’t see him as a hero that often if at all. He does play plenty of bit parts and neutral characters, such as he did in Malcolm X when he played the part of one of the shooters that ended Malcolm’s life, but he’s also had parts such as one of the Jeff’s in Carlito’s Way: Rise to Power, where he’s definitely violent but in a calm and controlled manner. The guy is just great, that’s all that needs to be said.
As far as the show goes it already sounds as though it’s going to be something that might be worth the effort to watch and could possibly open a lot of eyes if stuff from the show is proven to be more realistic than people are thinking. In Breaking Bad it does feel as though a lot of the show was based off of real events that could happen and possibly have through the years, but that’s the job of TV and movies, they’re there to make you think that it could all happen and that anything is possible. With a show such as this however it’s still easy enough to make people think that everything is up for grabs and that there’s a lot of realism going on. The fun part of this is that a lot of what went on in Breaking Bad is pretty accurate according to the creator of the show. They actually had to have the DEA’s approval to shoot certain parts and had to be told what to omit and what was okay to go in. But as a result, that means that accuracy was key to Breaking Bad, which will likely come up when this new show is released. Obviously no one wants to show a person how to make a meth lab on TV, but the fact is that the science in many shows and movies is something that makes a lot of scientists shake their head and stop watching, so Vince Gilligan wanted to make certain that the show presented as much to the fans as possible in order to make it look as though they knew exactly what they were talking about. Just imagine there being people out there like these characters. Some of us might already know this to be true, but finding validation in those beliefs is still bound to be mind-blowing.
