From the late 80s to the present day No Doubt has been of the best known bands around and their songs have been among the most played out of anyone in the music industry since they’re light, airy, and a lot of fun no matter where you’re at, most of the time. The interesting thing is that Gwen Stefani’s brother Eric is the one that got her to go along with the idea and brought her in, thereby kind of cementing her place in the lineup. When bassist Tony Kanal came on however it was almost a recipe for disaster since he and Gwen started dating eventually even after it had been established that none of the band should ever date one another, which meant that no one should be dating Gwen to be honest. But after a short while of being together they broke it off and it was kind of easy to tell that the split managed to influence their music for a while.
Here are some of their songs as heard in movies and TV.
5. No Doubt – Don’t Speak
No Doubt is kind of an odd band to hear on a show like King of the Hill, but given the fact that Bobby was a little off at times as a character it’s not too surprising that they would be added into the mix. Hank Hill was the kind of character that liked everything the way it should be and nothing out of place, but rarely ever got that kind of existence since his son was a bit different from him and his wife constantly had ideas that ran contrary to what he thought was good sense. His friend were a whole other matter since they were either too foolish or involved with their own petty problems to be of much use most times.
4. Clueless – Just A Girl
Clueless is one of the most perfect movies ever made for a song like this since Cher and her friends are, without a doubt, a reason to marvel over just how anyone this vapid could continue to exist. But somehow they became symbols that were used for the era and as a result became highly popular, enough so that the movie became an inspiration for a musical and even an attempt at a TV show, which unfortunately went nowhere. This song however has been popular ever since it was released and is perhaps one of the most popular tracks off of Tragic Kingdom as well as one that No Doubt is best known for.
3. Go – New
Go is a crazy movie, hands down and no doubts about it. The film is shot from the different perspective of several people throughout its length and overlaps in a few different spots so as to make sure the audience sees everything as it’s been happening without any noticeable gaps and with plenty of information so as to fill in the blanks. But that being said it’s a movie that’s mostly about one young woman’s attempt to score some ecstasy only to have to find a way to pay back the dealer once she has to flush it avoid being busted for possession. It also has to do with a band of friends that go to Vegas and have to leave post haste when one of them runs afoul of a rather ill-tempered bouncer and his very aggressive father.
2. Happy Madison Productions – Hella Good
The most notable appearance of this song, aside on this little blurb that occurs before several movies, is the time it appeared in the remake of The Longest Yard, an Adam Sandler movie that was based off of a Burt Reynolds film from years before. Reynolds of course was in the film as a supporting actor and it’s actually a good thing he was since he brought a bit of class and it was a great homage to the original. The use of this song in this manner however has been kind of nice since it’s a great intro to other movies. Aside from that it’s just a fun song that happens to get a person in the mood to watch a movie.
1. 50 First Dates – Underneath It All
Do you get the feeling that Adam Sandler might like No Doubt just a little bit? After all he made it the opening song for his production company for a while, and it shows up in this movie as well. Of course in this movie it’s hard to really pay attention since you’re kind of focused on what he’s going to do next to try and get the woman he’s falling for to notice him and fall in love with him again. But when it comes to head injuries just giving it your best shot isn’t always going to work. In fact it rarely ever works.
No Doubt is still one of the best bands around.
