The Best Uses of Josh Turner Songs in Movies or TV

Josh Turner is a country and gospel singer that almost didn’t get to realize his dream since at one point he was told that he had a lesion on his vocal cords that could have ended his career before it really got going. He took the advice of the doctors however and returned home to rest for a while, and when he came back he was ready and willing to go. His career since that time has been pretty much stable and right on track and he’s gone on to win several awards during his time in the business. He’s a devout Christian that wants to spread the word and create a solid base so that he can be heard and so that his words can touch as many people as possible. Christian music is definitely on the rise as it has been for a while. It might not resonate with everyone but it does have a place in the industry.

Here are a few of his songs as used in movies and TV.

5. Forever My Girl – Back From Gone

Some might call Liam kind of a jerk for leaving Josie the way he did, especially after she realized she was pregnant with his child. In fact the guy didn’t even come back until he heard about the death of one of his old friends. The power of forgiveness and the love that comes with it however is strong in this movie since Liam not only comes back and reconnects with Josie and their daughter Billy, but then he freezes when his own daughter is choking and doesn’t know what to do. This drives him into a bar where he drinks to forget and then leaves when Josie’s brother mentions it might be better. But then he comes back again and, well, they reconnect again. Forgiveness and love are great, but wow.

4. Live at the Grand Ole Opry – Long Black Train

This was his professional debut it sounds like and he did a great job since he got a standing ovation and was even goaded into an encore. That kind of attention and admiration isn’t uncommon but it’s always a welcome sight to any musician since it means that their music touched the audience and made them believe in the words if even for a short amount of time. That kind of popularity can’t be bought or in any way faked and it was a good indication that Josh was on his way to becoming someone great. To this day this is probably one of the most poignant memories in his career.

3. Josh Turner – Almost Persuaded

This song was set to accompany the story of the famous preacher Billy Graham, but as it happens clips are sometimes hard to find so the song had to suffice. But if anyone knows of the famed preacher, who passed on in February of this year, then they’ll know that he was an iconic figure that in his time was seen as a spiritual leader and someone that millions of people looked up to. He had his faults, he was human after all, but to many there is no question that this man was someone great and worthy of respect and praise. That being said, he was also someone that, for all his followers, sometimes had to admit that he didn’t have all the answers.

2. Josh Turner – Don’t Fence Me In

Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, is the movie that this song accompanies and is about a young girl that sets out to be a reporter in a day and age when women were still largely considered to be homemakers and little girls were barely considered at all for many things. When she tries to get her story to run in the paper she’s almost entirely ignored, but when she uncovers a series of thefts happening in her neighborhood and even helps catch the crooks her article and name finally run in the paper and she’s seen as inspiration to others that show how a girl can do something worthwhile.

1. Josh Turner – Good Woman Bad

This song accompanies a movie titled An Unfinished Life, which stars Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman, and Jennifer Lopez. Redford plays a grumpy old man that hasn’t spoken to his daughter-in-law, played by Lopez, since the death of her husband, his son. When she shows up with her daughter, needing a place to lay low from an abusive boyfriend, he initially doesn’t want anything to do with her. But as he grows closer to his granddaughter and then to her mother he eventually becomes the person that was before his son’s death, ready to defend her against anyone that comes calling.

Josh Turner is definitely on the right road to becoming a legend in his own genre and it wouldn’t be surprising to keep hearing his name pop up now and again as his career continues onward.
