Targaryen Prequel Show “House of the Dragon” Coming to HBO

It seems that The Long Night has been canceled, but instead we’ll be seeing another prequel that will focus on House Targaryen, which is one that a lot of people are likely wanting to see considering that the Targaryen’s are one of the most prominent families in the Game of Thrones series and yet we see so few of them that it’s hard to really get a feel for the house. HBO will be coming up with a new prequel series that will hopefully detail just how the Targaryen line came to take over Westeros, as Hannah Shaw-Williams of ScreenRant talks about, and will hopefully even give us a look at how the Iron Throne was created. Remember that the throne was created from the swords of those that swore fealty to Aegon the Conqueror, so it’s kind of exciting to think that we might be able to see just how it was constructed. Apart from that it seems hopeful that we could see just where the Targaryen’s came from and what life was like before they made their way to Westeros.

There are so many stories to the Game of Thrones world that it seems as though HBO would be trying to launch more than one spin-off so as to expand on George R.R. Martin’s idea and give it a little more running room so as to showcase just how certain characters and situations came to be. House of the Dragon however is set to take place a good 300 years before the events of GoT so we won’t be seeing anyone from the timeline that we’re familiar with, and dragons will seemingly be more commonplace in this world since Aegon and his two dragonriders were known to take down their enemies in a wave of fire and destruction that would make what Dany and Drogon did seem pale by comparison. Keep in mind that Drogon was massive and actually melted the Iron Throne at the end of the series, now think of an elder dragon that could put the dragon in his place and smack the other two around for good measure if they felt like it. It does seem as though House of the Dragon might be an impressive feat for those that have already created something that people will be likely to remember for years to come, but given the work they’ve already done it does seem entirely possible.

Thus far we’ve seen enough of the GoT to know that there is a lot yet to be unveiled, especially since a great deal of it has been referenced through the show and its characters or online as more and more people have done what they can to insure that Martin’s vision is given the representation that they really want. To be honest when GoT first came out on HBO I was one of those that picked up the first book and started reading, but like so many others I grew insanely frustrated when Martin couldn’t seem to keep up with the show. Granted, writing a book can take time and creating something that people will read can be taxing, but the guy had a great deal of time to work with and somehow didn’t get to sit down and make the world come to life yet again, which is going to be even more frustrating since it would seem that he wants to finish the series, but it will be different than the show given that he’ll likely put his own spin on things. In any case you can imagine that more people are going to die since ‘kill your darlings’ seems to be something that Martin takes quite literally given that poor Ned Stark didn’t even make it out of season one. You can only imagine what the rest of the series will be like in Martin’s hands, if he ever gets it finished.

As spin-offs go however a story about the Targaryen’s and their house seems like it will be a hit since they’re one of the more dynamic and least-known houses in the entire story no matter how many online explanations exist and how many timelines have tried to instill a strong sense of understanding regarding their society. There’s a lot more to comprehend about GoT and how it all really got started, and this will be yet another insight into a world that is rich in culture and in virtually everything else that our society is dishing on these days. Hopefully though the show will follow the same kind of path that the original series did in an effort to bring some sort of continuity to the whole thing. The world of GoT is a brutal one to be certain and it’s a place that is not as kind as one might like, but it’s honest in its brutality quite often and doesn’t hide what it is.
