Two six-year veterans of the longest-running variety show on television won’t be returning to the series this fall.
As discovered by TVLine and confirmed by an NBC spokesperson, Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah, two of the most veteran cast members remaining on the series, have decided to leave Saturday Night Live in order to explore new opportunities. The two cast members have been fan-favorites throughout their run on the series, impersonating the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Marco Rubio, Jay-Z, Will Smith, President Barack Obama, and Dr. Ben Carson (among many, many others) to the praise of many.
While it’s a shame to see these two go, they most certainly have long careers ahead of themselves. The series, too, should be able to move on pretty easily, as it adds new cast members each and every year in order to replace any outgoing performers. That’s one good thing about being on the air for over four decades, I suppose.
