South Park Season 21: What We Know So Far

It’s kind of hard to believe it’s been 21 seasons thus far. A lot of people didn’t think this show would last past its first few seasons, and now look at it. South Park became a globally-known commodity and then faded out, and then came back, and then faded out again. Now those of us that remember the show actually taking off are still surprised to see it around. We’ve seen a South Park movie and we’ve even seen the two creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, create their own movie, Baseketball, in which you actually hear a number of jokes you might hear on the show. So yes, South Park is still here, and it’s still successful enough that it should be sticking around for a while. If you don’t like that, then I’m certain Cartman will tell you just what you can do about it.

So what can we expect from season 21 so far?

The creators will be toning down on the serialization of the show.

Season 20 was the first time that Parker and Stone had set out an actual serialized story arc for the show. Normally South Park isn’t the type of show that runs with a series for any longer than one or two episodes. Parker and Stone have never really liked the idea of running their show in such a manner and have always stuck to a grueling schedule of starting and finishing an episode in the six days they grew accustomed to. There might still be some serialized elements to the show, but they will not be the main focus any longer. Instead Stone and Parker want to get back to their original style that made the show so popular.

They will be leaning away from anything that has anything to do with Donald Trump.

With all the Trump-bashing going on it seems like no one has time to talk about anything else. Parker and Stone are well aware that there’s a lot more going on the world and want to get away from the Trump arc as much as possible. There’s just too much going on in the South Park universe and the world around them in general that could be explored without having to rip into Trump on a daily basis. Like the rest of us Stone and Parker are getting kind of tired of hearing about it no matter what they might think of the POTUS.

Their stories will be going back to their original formula.

Like I said there will be some serialization, but otherwise Stone and Parker are going back to basics. South Park was created simply and without a lot of attention to anything other than the boys and their reactions to the world around them. Even the movie didn’t factor in much more than the boys and their reaction to the events that were going in their small region of the world. That’s where South Park originated and that’s where it should probably stay.

Not hearing about Trump and going back to the old story lines will be a nice return to the normal pace.
