I’ve been saying this for over 20 years but I still think my favorite rap album of all-time is Same as it Ever Was by House of Pain. It’s almost as if after the first album Everlast said, “you know what? Jump Around was cute but it’s time to sound about as hard as any rapper has ever sounded.” Sure the album had their hit which was “On Point” but even that song was “weak” compared to the rest of the tracks. I personally think there are two songs that define that album.
The first wasn’t as commercial a hit as the second but it’s just as tough. “Running up on Ya” is a workout classic. But I think the real song that defines this album is “Who’s the Man.” It certainly had some commercial success but I think it should be considered a top 100 rap song of all-time. Is that too far a stretch? I really don’t think so. Just listen to how tough this song is. Seriously, I want to punch a hole through a brick wall.
I tell ya, rap doesn’t usually get me all juiced but this song is sick.
