There’s got to be a good reason why Solo: A Star Wars story, has had zero promotional material come out yet, and I think I’ve found at least one. Keep in mind it’s a theory but it’s preferable to thinking that Disney has no faith in the movie at all. It could be that since Disney has come to own December in the last few years that they might go ahead and delay Solo a while and decide to simply own the winter months rather than try to make it back to May where they were originally dominant. Trying to dominate the middle of the year and then the winter months in alternating years seems like it might be asking for a huge backfire as people begin to think that Star Wars is trying to take over the movie scene. However it would also give Ron Howard, who took over the production last year, more time to finish up with what he needs to fine tune and polish so that the film is able to really wow the audience rather than accept the fact that there might be a few errors here and there and a lack of continuity.
Keep in mind that Howard had to come in and almost rip the thing apart to get it running right again after the last two directors left. So far the Solo film is not really looking like it was meant to exist, though fans would be sorely disappointed if it didn’t. Of all the talks of bringing forth these new stories featuring popular characters from the franchise Han Solo’s would be one that needs to be showcased among the many. After all Han has a very interesting back story that I’m willing to guess a lot of people just don’t know. He was a swoop racer, he was a thief, a scoundrel, and at one point he was even an Imperial. Now do keep in mind this was all written before Disney took over so it could be considered non-canon. But if they get rid of the Imperial part then they’d suffer a whole new type of problem since in The Empire Strikes Back, Han knew the procedure the Empire would follow before moving into hyperspace. A good smuggler might know the signs but it’s less likely than if Han had been an Imperial pilot at one time.
Delays on the film would be better than not having it all, though I would hope that we might get to see a bit of Boba Fett and perhaps peripheral views of the after effects of the Clone Wars somewhere in the movie. After all Han isn’t too much older than Luke and Leia, though he’s old enough to have had a lifetime of experience when he met them. It’d be fun to see elements of the galaxy that had been ripped apart during the war and were just now being set aright. Plus, it’d be interesting to see what point in Solo’s life they’re going to use as the basis of the movie.
It might be delayed is the reason why we’re not seeing a lot so far, since yes, four months out is when we’d be getting inundated with trailers.
