Skinny Pete Playing the Piano in Breaking Bad Will Always Be a Defining Moment

Breaking Bad not only had its stars but there were numerous characters in the show that left a lasting impact. Perhaps the one character who had practically zero impact on the show was Skinny Pete. And yet there was one moment on the show that I would consider to be one of the most memorable moments of the entire series. That moment involved Skinny Pete.

Maybe it’s because I play piano but for some reason this scene has always stuck with me in a series that had no shortage of standout moments. Skinny Pete is just kind of there through the whole series as your standard tweaker until this point. What’s even more interesting is that when the scene is over, he goes right back to being his wasted talent of a self.

What this scene, this whole show actually, says to me at least, is that regardless of your background, your talent and your intelligence, the choices you make for your life are what matter. This scene suggests Pete was very talented and possibly someone cared enough about him as a child to get him piano lessons, which sort of makes his current situation more tragic because in many ways he likely chose his life.

P.S. the song he’s playing is C.P.E. Bach’s Solfeggietto
