You might have seen this photo floating around the internet today. It’s a personalized potato of Dirk Nowitski that was send to none other than Dirk Nowitski in the mail. Speculation around who sent this potato ran from psychotic fans to fans in love with Dirk to teammates playing a personal prank. Turns out it was none of these things. A company that was once featured on Shark Tank is the culprit of the potato in the mail. According to USA Today:
If you’re a fan of ABC’s show Shark Tank, you may remember that late last year, two entrepreneurs – Alex Craig and Riad Bekhit – came on the show to ask for $50,000 for 10 percent of their company, Potato Parcel. The business was pretty simple: People pay them $9.99 and $12.99 (depending on the type of message they want), and these guys will send a personalized message on a potato to a person of their choosing.
While the two were making their pitch, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban called it “stupid on a stick.” “It’s actually stupid on a potato,” Craig responded. Turns out the idea is smarter than Cuban thought. In 13 months of operations the company has booked $215,000 in sales and they did in fact get a $50,000 investment from two of the sharks.
Quite fitting that they’d send the potato to a Dallas Maverick, the team Cuban owns.
