It’s no secret that wine has risen in popularity in what appears to be every single year that more wines get made. However the way in which wine is used, marketed, and even interpreted continues to evolve. This is what the women of Goverre are banking on. Regan Kelaher and Shannon Zappala bring Goverre, their portable glass “sippy cup” for wine, to the Shark Tank in this Friday. The two Southern California women share a “passion for all things wine” and they love the out doors. They created Goverre so they could easily take a glass of wine on the go. According to the Shark Tank Blog:
Goverre is made with thick glass surrounded by a silicon sleeve. It holds 17 ounces of wine (or any other beverage). It also comes with a spill-proof sipping lid — so it really is an adult sippy cup! The glass is a better solution since beverages taste better in glass than plastic or stainless steel.
They got there business off the ground with a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2014 that raised $63,457. They used the funds for tooling, engineering, and their first production run. Since then, they’ve been selling the product on Amazon and from their website.
It’s likely that they are seeking an investment from the sharks for two reasons: production and distribution. If their product is to be a mass marketed product they’ll need to scale at a level they most likely can’t right now. The question is, are there enough people out there who are interested in a portable wine glass? We’ll see if the sharks answer “yes” to this question.
