Scorpion: Team goes Off-grid for Christmas. Tim Makes A Big Decision.

Scorpion

Team Scorpion goes off-grid in this Christmas episode/winter finale of Scorpion. I’m all for going off the grid when on vacation. We depend way too much on our various devices. Then again, our minds can’t stop thinking about our virtual presence.

Walter wasn’t too happy about having to go without his devices, but he’s willing to do that for Paiges’ sake. The team liaison has Walter wrapped around her finger, just like Lucifer is with Detective Decker. In a great way of course. These two would do anything for the women they love. I liked the idea of using the concept of Tetris to pack luggage in the trunk of the car. Maybe I should try that should I ever get the chance to go camping or something.

The scene where Tim and Agent Gallo wore identical sunglasses made me snicker. I agreed with Toby when he said that he sees double. They even take the sunglasses off the same way! I swear that Tim is like Agent Gallo 2.0 sometimes. I also enjoyed the part where Sylvester and Happy dressed up as Santa Claus and an elf girl (respectively) to help the human calculator get votes. Happy threatened to roast Sylvester’s “chestnuts on an open fire” if anyone takes a photograph of her wearing the costume. I laughed out loud.

What shocked me the most about this episode is how the entire team fell for Sam’s story. Tim and Walter saved the supposed undercover ATF agent as they looked for the perfect Christmas tree (the tree that Walter picked reminds me of the one Charlie Brown picked out). Sam then told Agent Gallo that he knew a fellow agent named Lisa, thus passing the test. In the end, Sam turns out to be one of the gun runners. He was caught by the other gun runners stealing money from them, and they were going to kill him for it.

Another surprising moment was Paige breaking her rule about no technology for Christmas Weekend. She took out her cellphone and gave it to Walter to build a makeshift radio device to call for help. Shame on you, Paige Dineen, shame on you! I also don’t buy the fact that Walter built that laptop for Paige. Though technically, he could have. He is a genius after all, and he made a rocket from scratch so a laptop should be a piece of cake.

I almost applauded with glee as Team Scorpion got all Home Alone on the gun runners when they found the cabin. The way that they took each gun runner out was ingenious! Agent Gallo’s bowling joke after he took out the last gun runner made me facepalm. It was also sweet of the Homeland agent to give Ralph his pocket knife when everyone was back in the garage. He had wanted to pass the knife to his grandson someday, and Ralph is like his surrogate grandson in a way.

The truth also came out for Walter and Tim’s apparent friendship. It wasn’t a real friendship as the two of them were faking it for Paige. Tim also put two and two together and figured out that Walter still loves Paige after seeing the laptop wallpaper of him being blocked by a stack of folders. The former Navy SEAL told him that while he might be a genius, but when it comes to Paige, he’s still got a lot to learn. Wow, harsh words.

I admired Ralph’s quick thinking as the young genius cut through his rope binding with Agent Gallo’s pocket knife. The boy then crawled into the trunk of Sam’s car, thus reducing the risk of injury. Yay for Ralph and his brain! Take notes, Mom and Dad in case the unthinkable happens to your children.

Speaking of Tim, he made the decision to take the job offer in the Middle East after all under the advice of Paige. The team liaison told him that he’s not a “little desk” kind of guy, which he isn’t. He’s a leader, and leaders don’t take backseats. It wouldn’t make sense to have two people in charge of Scorpion. Scorpion is Walter’s team, and it should remain Walter’s team. I have to agree with Toby again when the shrink told Walter that Paige is going to blame the genius for Tim’s departure from the team in the new year.

It also looks like Toby will have a merry Quintis Christmas after all. He gave Happy her present (after it got dismantled by bullets) and the mechanical prodigy gave her fiancé a key fob with a recording of her saying “attaboy!”. She also kept the elf girl costume for their honeymoon. Dr. Curtis, you lucky duck!
