San Diego Comic-Con: Man In The High Castle Stars Luke Kleintank, Bella Heathcote Talk New Character, Preview Season Two

The Man in the High Castle

At San Diego Comic-Con, I had the chance to sit down and speak with several people involved with the creation of some of my favorite shows. At the press room for Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle, I spoke with the show’s stars Luke Kleintank and Bella Heathcote to talk about what’s coming up for their characters, and for the show in Season 2.

New Character:

Bella Heathcote plays a new character named Nicole. When asked about joining up and working on the show, she said “it’s wild”. It sounds like she’s enjoying her time!

Heathcote is playing Nicole Becker, a documentary filmmaker who’s passionate about the environment. She described Nicole as “very privileged, very wealthy”, which certainly affects her frame of reference as a filmmaker. “She loves to party and she loves to flirt and she really likes to look at Joe Blake.” (to which Kleintank chimed in “who wouldn’t?!”). Heathcote indicated that Nicole is part of a generation that wasn’t involved in the war, which makes her part of a “new generation” of Nazis. Her generation is  more concerned about the environment than Nazi ideals, which is an interesting direction to take things.

Heathcote says that Nicole is “fascinated” by Joe because he’s different than anyone she’s ever met.

What’s Next For Joe?:

Luke Kleintank also gave us a preview of what’s next for Joe, saying that he is “facing the lion” in Season 2. Is he going to fight or run away from said lion? That remains to be seen.

After reading my previous articles, and the previewing of the “alternate realities” that we will be seeing in Season 2, Kleintank was asked how that will affect Joe. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) Joe is “not affected” by the alternate reality that you see at the end of Season 1. Sounds like Joe will have more of an “in the now” type struggle.

Another thing we learned about Season 2: We will find out more about Joe’s past. “That’s all of Season 2 for Joe,” Kleintank said. “We dive deeper into who he is as a person.” Kleintank told us that without a doubt, we will find out “why he’s doing what he’s doing, who he is, and where he comes from” following his mysterious turn in Season 1.

What To Watch For:

Luke and Bella are both excited for the last episode they filmed. They couldn’t say more, only that they were “excited” to see how it turns out. Their advice to fans of the show, was just to remember that Episode Six of Season Two has something really great for both Joe and Nicole. So be sure to check back here when you think you know what it is!

What do you think? Are you excited for the new character, and Joe’s new arc? Let us know in the comments!
