Last night’s premiere of Riverdale received stellar reviews. While many people initially got excited for a revival of the Archie Comics, any kind of remake that would resemble the hokey 50s like style was squashed immediately upon some of the first images of production a few months back. The show has taken on a much darker tone more appropriate for the 21st century. In fact some critics have compared the show to David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks.” Others have said it mixes Lynch’s elements with that of a show like “Dawson’s Creek.”
While it remains to be seen just how integral Archie is to carrying the show, early indications are that Betty and Veronica will be the show’s catalyst. In the end, the show is going to boil down to character development. Can it eventually grow into a show that fans are attracted to and tune in to see every week? The premiere indicates that it certainly can but there’s definitely a ways to go.
“Chapter Two: A Touch of Evil,” is set to air February 2 and is officially described from the network as follows:
“As new details of Jason’s death begin to emerge, Archie pleads with Miss Grundy (guest star Sarah Habel) to come forward with what they heard at Sweetwater River. Betty makes an effort to mend her friendship with Archie but takes a different stance with Veronica, who is trying to make up for her actions. With rumors around her brother’s death running rampant, Cheryl deals with the pressure in true Queen Bee fashion, while tensions boil over when Jughead stumbles upon a secret Archie was hoping to keep hidden. Finally, plans for the annual fall pep rally move forward with a performance by Josie and the Pussycats and a special appearance by Mayor McCoy (guest star Robin Givens).”
Do I just read that right? Robin Givens is guest starring? That alone should me me tune in. Haven’t heard that name in a while.
